GDT JAN 16: Blues @ Leafs 7pm TSN

Ok, the break is over. They got their rest. No more whining. Time to get back into gear.

Leafs are starting to slip too much. Down to 14th best record in the league (though neck in neck with 4 teams ahead of them, and not quite down with the bubble teams.

The Blues are one of those teams we're neck and neck with. They've followed a similar path as us this year - a good first quarter followed by a slow and steady decline. Though for them much of that has to do with Allen falling back down to earth (not surprising given he's not actually very good), and by Hutton getting red hot (which won't last, but might last thru tonight).

Interesting looking at the Blues' lines - kinda similar format in their top-2 lines, but instead of finishing off the top 2 lines with grinders like hyman and komarov, they play skilled youngsters there in Barbashev and Jaskin. And they do that even though they don't near the offensive depth we do.

Legend:

Letter Grades = Quality of Competition measured by opponents' time on ice, Converted into Letter Grades for simplicity
p60 = points per 60 minutes
CF% = Corsi For Percentage (i.e. shot attempts for percentage)
xGF% = Expected Goals For Percentage (i.e. shot attempt percentage adjusted for shot quality) - this stat is already adjusted for zone deployment and game score
In Brackets = CF% and xGF% relative to team
dsv% = difference between save percentage and expected save percentage

Gonna be a tough game, cause the Blues always play us tough.

That, and we seem to have problem vs backups all the times. They always seem to have game of their lives when they play us.

And Hutton is among the best 'backups' in the league ... that's trouble for a team who has been struggling to score.

Still, no more excuses. We have been sluggish for the past 20 games or so, need to step it up and get ready for the playoff.

Go Leafs Go!!!!

Good to have game night
But Im not sure Babs wants us to win

Tough game tonight, and six games in ten days doesn't sound good either....but this has to mean our schedule is going to lighten up, right?
No more west coast travel, very few back-to-backs, more home games...I think attrition alone will help us out as other teams get their shitty-ended stick.

Tonight though, just win.

So how does Martin throw a clean hit, get jumped, negates zone time and a chance on net, and we don't get a PP out of it?

NHL officiating everyone.

Why is Polak jumping up into the rush?
Exactly what I was going to say. He's not fast enough to get back so he shouldn't be joining in. Even when Freddy bails him out it always seems to end in him taking a penalty because he's gassed from getting back.

I hate that Kadri line. Can we change that one yet? I'm starting to like the 4th line more...Even with Martin.
