Canes Call Up Zykov

He will play like 5 minutes with Nordstrom and Ryan and 0:00 on the PP. But at least they finally called him up which should have happened 2 months ago.

This will be an interesting case study in Wild Bill Peters future. If he does the Bill Peters Special and staples Zykov to the bench on a fourth line with 5 minutes of ice time I think he is dumber than he looks. Peters would be smart to play Zykov in all situations, especially the power play and let the big guy get dirty in front of the net. At this point in the season, you have to see what you have in Zykov, and the only way to do that is to give the a kid a chance to succeed. But all things being equal, it would be so "Canesy" to let him rot on the fourth line with that offensive dynamo Nordstrom playing alongside him.

If Zykov gets a Paul Maurice/Bill Peters 4th line special, Bill should be handed a pink slip after the game. No excuses.

Zykov sounds like the name of a poison that Putin's henchmen use on political dissidents.

Earlier in the weekend, Peters said he was going with the same lineup tonight as on Thursday. But that was before Zykov was recalled. There is no skate this morning so we'll have to wait until later to see if/where he slots.

You have to wonder just who the heck made the decision to call up Zykov. It doesn't sound like Peters is all that chuffed about it and you know darned well Francis didn't do it.

Well, he better make a hat trick in his 5 minute audition if he wants to stick around.
He didn’t last time and had two games to do it in.

And he's not playing the Rangers. So why invite him up?

They needed a 13th forward in case someone got hurt during warmups tonight, but if the callup is not going to play then that callup should have been a stiff like Patrick Brown or even Gregg McKegg. The Checkers play their next game tomorrow, so Zykov either needs to be in the Canes lineup tomorrow night or sent back to Charlotte. Its ridiculous that he isn't playing tonight.

I understand that Ronnie is still acting GM.

No basis in fact opinion for this board: If RF felt he got submarined by BP, then call up Zykov and see what BP does.....Let him sit on the hot seat awile (e9--off the charts rumor)

He did score in his game and a half with the Canes (got hurt in the 2nd game). So, his NHL goal scoring rate is 54.6 per season. That not good enough for you?

And for the record, right now this club is a freaking clown college when it comes to roster decisions. If they call up Zykov and he sits then they're just shouting their general incompetence to the world to see if anyone notices.

Well, DiGiuseppe and Nordstrom have both scored twice as many goals this year as our AHL goaltender. And Stempniak has matched that.

How can any of them sit?

No, of course not. It’s two, count them, two goals short of a hat trick. And if he’s in the press box tonight, it will be darn difficult for him to produce. If no hat trick, minimum, then he’s shown he can’t produce at the nhl level so back to Charlotte.
