GDT APR 19 - Getting Stronger

I honestly have no idea what Toronto fans are expecting if that was a "circus" tonight.

The Boston Bruins are one of the top 5 defensive teams in the NHL, and we had more and better chances on their goalie than they had on ours. If that was a circus in front of the Leaf net, what was it in front of Boston's net?

Freddy has given up 3 hilarious goals in the last 2 games, full stop.

What was it in front of their net? Nothing, that’s what. How many ten bell saves did Rask make? None. How many penalties did we draw for all this supposed pressure we applied? One, which we squandered badly.

The whole team has been garbage. Full stop.

Deliberately biased blindness and shameless scapegoating.

We haven’t played well enough to win shit so far. **** your useless possession stats.

not even looking at possession stats.

looking at scoring chances. and breakaway saves. and 2 on 1 saves. and deflection saves. and horrific bad angle floater goals allowed.

nothing to do with possession whatsoever. just real actual things that happened which we all saw.

Andersen sucks.

People like to say he carried them through much of the season. That's not even remotely accurate. He did carry them when Mike thought he'd have them play like he had a collection of no talent plugs for a couple of months. The rest of the season (i.e., the majority of it), the team bailed him out by outscoring his shitty goaltending.

That view of Andersen's season is just like the view of his play in game 3. He had one good period, blew chunks otherwise, and gets first star. It was laughable when people started saying he should be a Vezina nominee, if not favourite. He promptly started sucking when that conversation came up. Undeterred, people then said he should be a Hart nominee. lol

It's truly comical the way goalies are treated in Toronto.

In any event, goaltending was a big question mark going into the playoffs. It is no longer. The Leafs need to find another goalie before they can contend.

At the end of the day the Leafs are probably going to be eliminated 2 years in a row by a team that was better, or slightly better than them, but in both series, they will have had the worse goalie by a healthy margain, where i wouldn't call the better goalie a saviour. IMO Andersen is meh.

Agreed. There is zero chance the leafs win a cup with Andersen.

Yes, dude. Yes, when it’s been a circus in front of him.

The last two goals tonight were a clinic on how not to play D.

Would’ve been nice if Freddy saved them, but they executed both to perfection.
Z played that bad but Freddy bit hard on the first 2 on 1

That was a collective effort from both.

Last time we did it thanks to reimer.

OMG seriously zeke ..... have you got back into scrapbooking again ... are things that bad that you are getting your reimer chubby again.
For fuxk sakes ..... rask and breakaways lol how many of these breakaways have had pucks hit the net? Kapanen hit the post and rask in the chest and missed the net. Marner.... lousey attempt.
So he hasnt been tested very much.
Most of the last game have had torontos defense getting their passes picked off by the bruins dmen or forwards backing them up.
Simple math .... how many shots dangerous opportunities have jvr had ....
Matthews and nylander had......
How many quality chances as a whole did the leafs generate.
Leafs may have outshot them, but as we have said the numerous times in leaf victories this season, most of the opps shots were outside and of low quality

Since he got his Bell wring last time, he’s clearly been off from his mid season form.

Agreed .... didnt the same thing happen last year too. Came back from his bump on the noggin and performed at a level below his play beforehand

Its hard to believe we got 105pts this season with that defense. They may have been able to pull it off in the regular season but the playoffs are exposing this defense for what it is. Playoff hockey is just more physical and intense, our defenseman obviously can't handle it.

Guys like Gardiner, Riely, Hainsey and Zietev look over-matched, make poor decisions and play like they're made of marshmallow puffs. They're looking like they belong on a Ringette team. Unfortunately, things have been amplified with the no-show of the first line and Anderson not being up to par. Anderson looks spent, burnt-out of having to stand on his head to make up for that poor defense.

Clearly, the objective for next season is finding some real defenseman, they're atrocious.

Andersen, Kadri, Willy, Matthews, and our D core have all blew chunks. Willy has been invisible while his buddy Pastrnak leads his team into the second round.

Just a reminder that Mike Babcock is 14-22 in the playoffs since Nick Lidstrom retired, having advanced to the second round once since 2013

Such a disappointing game. That was the Leafs best game this series and they really deserved to win it.

You have to love the steps Marner has taken in his game this year. He is playing on the shut down line and is still the most dangerous player on the ice. He competes so hard.

Series Totals

Shot Attempts: TOR 258 - BOS 231
Shots on Goal: TOR 122 - BOS 131
Scoring Chances: TOR 142 - BOS 122
High Danger SC: TOR 42 - BOS 42
Goals Scored: TOR 9 - BOS 17

Andersen obviously isn't the best goalie in the league. The problem with improving on Andersen though is the list of goalies that have been better than him over the last two years is: Bobrovsky, Gibson, Rinne, Crawford, Luongo, Dubnyk, Quick, Fleury, Vasilevskiy. He is unarguably a borderline top 10 goalie.

So how exactly do you propose getting one of the top 5-6 goalies in the league?

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Anderson is good enough, when he's on his game and it'll help if he doesn't need to face the most shots in the entire league.

The d-corps is the core of the problem. Lou needs to upgrade those soft pylons they're calling defensemen.
