Where are we in 3 years?

Where are we 3 years from now?

Goaltending
===========

Probably Still on the Team
---------------------------
Carey Price (34 years old)
- He might not be the best goalie in the league but I would expect him to be a top 10 goalie.
- Might be trade potential here if the young goalies show promise.

Not on the Team
---------------
Antti Niemi (38 years old)
- Not likely to be around even if he is from the great country of Finland.
- Potential to get some sort of low end or low draft pick back for him.

Prospect Likely to be on the Team
---------------------------------
Charlie Lindgren (27 years old)
- Would be entering his prime and should either be the starter (if Price sucks, platoon, is traded, or hurt) or most likely is Price's backup but seeing more and more games in net.

Cayden Primeau (22 years old)
- The 7th rounder was great this year and should be considered for a World Junior spot this season.
- 22 years old would be young to be the starter but I could see a bit of back up role in the NHL or the starter in the AHL.

Wingers
========

Probably still on the Team
---------------------------

Brendan Gallagher (29 years old)
- Will be entering UFA but at the end of his prime years so a decision will have to be made.
- I will assume he remains a 50 point winger.

Max Domi (26 years old)
- In his prime.
- I am going to assume he becomes a 50 point winger for his prime years.

Jonathan Drouin (26 years old)
- In his prime.
- I am assuming he ends up on the wing at around 60 points.

Charles Hudon (27 years old)
- In his prime.
- 40 point winger

Artturi Lehkonen (26 years old)
- In his prime.
- Call my optimistic but I am seeing a 25 goal winger

Joel Armia (28 years old)
- In his prime.
- Bottom 6 winger.

Maybe on the Team - Maybe Not
------------------------------

Nikita Scherbak (25 years old)
- Could be a bust or could break out.
- Love the skill but the health has not been there

Michael McCarron (26 years old)
- I am guessing he is out of the league but he might make it as a 4th liner.

Jacob De La Rose (26 years old)
- Center or wing? Does it matter?
- He is not good.

Not on the Team
---------------
Paul Byron (32 years old)
- With a bunch of wingers already on the team I cannot see him still being around in 3 years.
- Hopefully traded for futures.

Max Pacioretty (32 years old)
- Top line winger exiting his prime.
- Most likely trades for futures

Andrew Shaw (29 years old)
- Injuries, a trade, or not being good enough anymore will end his time in Montreal.

Futures
--------
Not much for recent prospects (only Jesse Ylonen) at the wing but maybe some failed centre prospects end up as wingers.

Centres
========

Probably still on the Team
---------------------------
Phillip Danault (28 years old)
- End of his prime.
- Third line centre

Not on the Team
----------------
Tomas Plekanec (38 years old)
- Trade him again for a draft pick if you can

Byron Froese (30 years old)
- Why?

Futures
--------
Jesperi Kotkaniemi (21 years old)
- Long way to go but this would be the first potential number 1 centre since Chuck. Lets hope this turns out better.
- First line potential

Ryan Poehling (22 years old)
- Potential second line centre

Joni Ikonen (22 years old)

Jacob Olofsson (21 years old)

Cam Hillis (21 years old)

Defense
========

Probably Still on the Team
---------------------------
Shea Weber (36 years old)
- Could be traded but I think he is still here
- I am guessing a PP specialist at this point

Karl Alzner (33 years old)
- Sadly I think he is still here.
- Might be a buyout candidate or traded to somebody like what was done with Steve Mason

Victor Mete (23 years old)
- Entering his prime.
- Hopefully a top 4 dman

Noah Juulsen (24 years old)
- Bottom pairing guy

Not on the Team
----------------
Jeff Petry (33 years old)
- Traded for futures

Jordie Benn (33 years old)
- Traded for futures

The Rest
- Gone

Futures
-------
Alexander Romanov (21 years old)
Jordan Harris (21 years old)
Josh Brook (22 years old)
Scott Walford (22 years old)
Cale Fleury (22 years old)
Jarret Tyszka (22 years old)
- Hopefully a few of these pan out to be top 4 dmen

Summary
-----------

Goaltending: We have a vet, prime, and young goalie. Good mix. Grade A.

Wingers: We will have mostly in their prime wingers but nobody really elite. Grade B.

Centres: We have nothing now and will need to hit on both our top centre prospects to just be average. Need to win the lottery next draft. Grade F.

Defense: We have a mix of vets, a few entering prime, and a bunch of prospects. Grade D.

How Copernicus still has his job is beyond me. He devastated this organization during his tenure and it will take years to rebuild.

This team will only have about 4-5 on this current roster , it will be mainly futures or traded players .

With only the players we have in our system... and minus the guys we should trade if possible.

Drouin - Kotkaniemi - Gallagher
Domi - Poehling - Ylonen
Lehkonen - Hillis - Scherbak
Deslauriers - Bitten - Armia

Romanov - Brook
Mete - Juulsen
Harris - Fleury

Lindgren
Primeau

Trade Price, Weber, Byron, Danault, Petry, Shaw for roughly 3 1sts, 3 2nds and random later picks.

With any luck our top 3 centres become Hughes, Kotkaniemi and Poehling.

I will second the notion that this franchise is in dire straights and the rebuild is happening without giant upside.

Koti and Poehling are promising but they're not Crosby/Malkin. If we're lucky, we're probably looking at prime Koivu/Plekanec.

Jack Hughes seems out of reach. This Price backstopped team is good enough to improve on last year's low point total.

We need to hoard more picks in order to increase our odds of catching the next Subban or Kuznetsov.

Further to that if Price only had a .920 Sv% last year that would’ve resulted in some 35-40 fewer GA easily translating to 10-15 more points

I think you're underestimating JK and RP big time.

There’s really no way to be know. Three years in pro sports is an eternity.

You used to be more brazen in your predictions. 3 yrs is a long time but right now so much hope I read about here is based on getting Jack Hughes.

Just like a year ago so much hope was based on getting Tavares.

even if things go well we are still not in great shape
max pac, subban, price, etc was probably better

need another 2-3 years of tanking

Not sure about this.

After the Domi/Galchenyuk trade (and the pending Pacioretty trade) we are and will be even worse on paper. Pleks/Weber/Petry are also all a year older.
