Come on now Gee, don't be silly.

    Forsberg-6m Johansen-8m Arvidsson 4.25m top line

Forsberg and Arvidsson are on really nice deals, RJ isn't being overpaid.

    Smith-4.25 Turris-6m Fiala-860k

even if turris takes a step back, 6m isn't going to make or break the preds, especially with the nice deals Forsberg and Arvidsson are on. Fiala isn't going to break the bank either, unless he has a breakout season.

    Sissons- 625k Bonino-4m- watson-1.1m

    Any complaints here? Bonino maybe?

    Tolvanen-900k, Jarnkrok-2m, hartman 875k

    Zero complaints here

    Josi-4m, Ellis-6.25

Steal until Josi signs a new deal

    Subban- 9m Ekholm 3.75m

    No issues here

    Hamhuis 1.25m Irwin 675k

    Fine.

    Rinne-7m, Saros 1.5

Rinne is due for a pay cut

Buyout 1.17 coming off the books after the 2019 season.

As it stands right now, preds have 7.1 million in cap space, and no ridiculous 10.5 million dollar deals sprinkled through the lineup. Factoring in Ellis getting a 4 million dollar raise, minus the buyout penalty, and assuming the cap stays the same, thats 4.2 in cap space for next season.

How are they hard done by the cap again?

When all their players magically break down just after signing big extensions. Geez, didn't you read that post above?

Meh. I trust Poile to trade RJ and Turris for Kotkaniemi and Poehling should that come to pass.

Yeah, for all the heat Bowman gets for those cap killing signings, I don't think there is any team in the league outside of Pittsburgh that wouldn't trade the current cap pain for 3 championships.

I don't think Nashville has the offensive abilities and they have an aging goalie who has let them down 2 years in a row in the playoffs.
IMO, Predators never win a cup with that core.

Their D is stupid good though. They have 4 top pairing dman. Ultimately it may not be enough, but that is one of the tougher team to beat in a 7 game series. Wouldn't be a shocker at all if they won a cup.

I think probably #2 behind Josi, but still on the upswing.

    Last 2yrs

    Josi (27): ES 19:08 (A-), 1.23p/60, 0.90p1/60, 53.4cf% (+3.0), 54.1xgf% (+5.2) / PP 2:57, 4.98p/60, 3.55p1/60 / PK 2:41
    Seth (23): ES 19:51 (B+), 1.20p/60, 0.85p1/60, 53.2cf% (+2.7), 50.5xgf% (-0.8) / PP 2:12, 5.74p/60, 3.76p1/60 / PK 1:58
    Ek (27): ES 19:18 (B+), 0.74p/60, 0.43p1/60, 54.3cf% (+4.3), 53.4xgf% (+3.6) / PP 1:39, 3.37p/60, 2.70p1/60 / PK 2:34
    Ellis (26): ES 18:53 (A-), 1.14p/60, 0.80p1/60, 52.1cf% (+1.2), 52.6xgf% (+0.6) / PP 2:12, 3.65p/60, 3.16p1/60 / PK 2:39
    PK (28): ES 18:58 (B+), 1.03p/60, 0.72p1/60, 53.4cf% (+2.2), 51.7xgf% (+1.1) / PP 2:52, 5.63p/60, 3.46p160, / PK 2:24

Yeah that was a terrible trade.

You'd think they could have gotten Johansen, or someone better for Weber.

Bowman's kind of a funny case.

I didn't give him a whole lot of credit for winning his first Cup with the core that Dale Tallon built, but his ruthless cap management in the following years definitely played a key role in the Hawks winning their second and third Cups. Eventually though, it seemed like he lost his nerve. The Seabrook contract was obviously and egregiously bad the day it was signed. And he started handing out mid-level money to the kinds of plugs and expendable supporting players that he used to ship out of town when it came time for them to get paid.

In any case though, even if he could have extended Chicago's competitive window with better moves, he still did win the three Cups in the end, and any fan would jump at that.

I mean, they have a chance, in that the NHL is a parity-driven league where any team in the top-5 or top-10 has a chance to win it all.

But I'm really not sure that they're built the right way to win in today's NHL. For all the praise their stacked defensive core gets, when was the last time a team won the Stanley Cup without being loaded with high-end-to-elite talent up front? You'd probably have to go back 15 years to the 2003 New Jersey Devils (who's top forwards were a bunch of 45-55 point players).

And a center group of Johansen-Turris-Bonino, and a top-6 of Forsberg, Johansen, Arvidsson, Turris, Smith & Fiala would probably be the worst Stanley Cup-winning group of forwards since that Devils team.

The other thing is---Pekka Rinne is a big wild card. He was good last year for the most part, but he's been pretty inconsistent over the past six seasons.
Ill trade five ordinary players for one great player any day. You can always find ordinary players. - Conn Smythe
