The ****ing Season Thread 2018-19

also seems strange given our defensive depth with the Marlies, no?
The Marlies' defensive depth isn't what it once was.

Not with Rasmus Sandin injured since the start of the season (and with his final destination this season still apparently uncertain), and with Marincin & Holl both occupying the press box for the Leafs instead of playing with the Marlies. They've been basically down to six regular defensemen (Borgman, Rosen, Nielsen, Liljegren, LoVerde, Subban).

Another factor here, besides whatever relationship Corrado may have with Dubas, is that Toronto's new assistant GM/Marlies GM Laurence Gillman was the GM of Vancouver's AHL farm team when Corrado was playing there as a Canucks draft pick.

Shattenkirk (with the rangers retaining all but 4 shmil) for zaitsev. Get it done.

Shatty sucks, admittedly, but he fits a more puck possession approach. As in, he can make a pass without firing it 100 mph down the ice. Him and Gardiner should be able to be a fine second pair.

I'm dreaming of course but **** it. Let's dream.

Those two together will create more icings than is happening now, geez and the turnovers .....

Hyman and Marleau are starting to look like drags on their lines again.

Leivo and Dermott killing it in soft competition again.

2nd pair is a big concern.

still looks to me like Goat and ennis should be the odd men out when we're at full strength.

Now Kadri is the one that is going to get traded.

How come in all this contract/cap talk no one ever mentions that the Leafs have $12 million in cap space this year, $30+ million next year plus $5 million in LTIR bonus room if needed and don't actually need to trade anyone?

lol. I just don't see how that one makes any sense. the dude is on one of the best contracts in the league, so you trade him?

Dreger just reported that teams were asking about Kadri (which I very much believe with his skillset and sweetheart contract) not that the Leafs are/should be dealing them.

you could save us all the trouble, and when the words "Dreger just reported" precede anything, simply ignore the remainder.

Step 1: Determine that you need to make some room under the salary cap
Step 2: Trade the player with the best-value cap-hit and contract on your team to make that cap room
Step 3: ???????
Step 4: CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!?!??!!!

Nah. He said people keep talking about moving Kapanen and Nylander, but they could also move a guy like Kadri.

they could. They have all kinds of good players teams would pay for if they had to moving anyone. But they don't. Because they have one of the best cap situations in the league.

They will never move any of the top three centers.

If they trade Kadri for D, who the hell centers our bottom two lines? If Matthews or Tavares is injured, then what, just forfeit the season?

You get depth for a reason, and it's not to trade it away as soon as you finally get it.

You trade from excess - and we have a lot of great wingers. If anyone were to get dealt, it would be from the Brown, Leivo, etc., contingency, where they could just move a guy in like Grundstrom into the bottom half of the lineup and not skip a beat.

Point isn’t that Kadri could/should/would be traded. Toronto has a number of high valued players that could fetch excellent return if cap relief required.

The nuance he's trying to provide there is highly disingenuous too. If you don't think could/would/should trade Kadri to clear cap room, and you're not just out to generate click-baity nonsense, then why report that conversation with an anonymous member of some other front office in the first place?
