Game 16 - Buffalo Sabres @ Montreal Canadiens - THU NOV 8TH 7:30 EST

A contract that Price and his agent forced upon the Habs at gunpoint: we want this or we walk in a year.

No GM or owner wants to overpay for a player.....heck even McDavid gave Oilers a discount, same with Crosby....it's foolish to think that Bergy is to blame for this. Price's agent made threats about leaving for UFA...they had all the leverage in the world...Habs were either gonna pay his asking price, or lose him for nothing (or close to nothing in a trade).

What was Bergy to do ?

Come on Rolex this is all on Nero and Molson for fcking this up.

He has not played like an elite goalie in years . He has been injuried and inconsistent since his MVP season .

We caved a year before he was a UFA . If we played out the year 31 was one of the worst starting goalies in the league .

No was giving him 7x 12 mil under any circumstance, even if he played well.

This was a regime failure of understanding the landscape of the NHL .

No goalie is even close to this dumb contract and no team puts that emphasis on a goalie carrying a team .

Stanley cup winners have gone without elite goalie performances recently.

We paid him for what he did not what he will be for the next 8 years .

This is like the Hawks giving JT an 8 year deal last year and being upset at his play .

This was a disaster in the making total blame on the regime.

Lets be serious what percentage did you give this contract working out in the 8 year term

This could get ugly next little while as the teams reversion to the mean occurs:

Domi will cool off as some point as Gallagher, Reilly etc. have. Drouin will need to step it up with his consistency

Drouin will never be a difference maker on consistance base.
Another fat contract by MB.

Drouin will be fine....

Once we have our center position set, things will start to gel for everyone.....give it another 1-2 years for JK to get comfy playing top minutes at center (Habs will continue to shelter him for the foreseeable future).

Ohhh please my friend....go re-read the threads on this site.....all the Price defenders were all out saying that many GMs would have given Price his 8 x 10.5M.....even the TSN guys were saying it.

Bergevin and Molson had only 2 choices: 1) give Price what he wants 2) lose Price to UFA next year

You really think Bergevin didn't try to negotiate a lower cap hit ???? What owner or GM wants to blindly give a player what he wants......Price had lots of leverage...Bergevin (as well as every hockey fan on this planet) saw how Price has been hiding management's bad decisions for the past 10 years.....making management look half decent.

But the past few years he's been average, he's allowed too many bad playoff goals....against weaker teams like Sens-Rangers-Flyers through the years....Bergy and Molson had a great occasion to re-set the future by trading Price.....like most of us wanted 2 years ago.....but they chickened out....

Rolex ....he had to go through the season which was brutal to get paid.

What reporter mentioned he has getting 12x 7 as a pure UFA on July 1, 2018 to match our value.

It's already started. The Habs have lost 5 of their last 8 games.

Once they start to hustle, they will win 5 of 8, then lose 5 of 8 all the way to 9th place.

Grab some non difference maker at the draft, throw them in the minors, and continue to thread the middle for seasons to come.

Woooooo!

The Habs are not deep enough to withstand injuries long term. Byron, Armia & Weber missing is a big hit for this team.

We are 4-4-2 in the last ten, which is not surprising, we are a middling team. We will probably finish around .500. With reasonable goaltending, we would have been 6-3-1 in the last ten.

I just find it hilarious that people who thought we would be bad, can get excited when we are winning, and now are choked we won.

This team is obviously better to watch than last year. We never would have come back four times last year. Once we were down the second time, it would have been over.

There is nothing you can do whether we win or lose, just enjoy what you get.

unless Price plays like an NHL goalie, not the Junior C one he has been for the last week.

With even average goaltending the last two games, we win both easily.

We always knew the defence would be suspect. Playing Benn, Alzner and Oulette in the same game is arguably the worst d in the NHL.

Are you telling us that just hoping that we “tank” is not going to make it happen?

I liked the Armia acquisition from day one. You still need some players who play a “heavier” style, and he can basically play on any line for short periods of time. Good ‘tweener type player.

Nah. They will lose more than win going forward. The trend started 2 weeks ago.

That's not a "middling" record. That's a bottom 8 record. Don't try to spin this stretch into a positive. They've been performing like bottom feeders the last two weeks.

If it makes you feel better, I was never happy that they were winning. I honestly don't care that they are losing. After the start of the season I was convinced they would be a. 500 team, and this season would be a waste.

As such, PVRing all the games, watching them on fast forward, really don't care about the results.

I remain convinced this team will please nobody.

Those who want a playoff team, shame. They won't make it.

Those who want a bottom 5 team, shame. They won't make it.
