Fvck American Airlines.
Got to Chicago (after a 3 hour delay) to find out connecting flight to Ottawa was cancelled.
The best/fastest return home without staying in a hotel was to fly to Montreal and then depart at 7:45am. We didn't make it home till 9:30am this morning...nearly 24 hours later. What a joke.
Montreal was awesome actually. Talked our way into the Maple Leaf lounge. They knew you were a Sens fan talking shit.
Karma.
Westjet>Porter>>>Air Canada>>American>>>>>>United
Take this from someone who works at the airport.
For most fliers, I think getting safely from point a to point b with a reasonable chance that your luggage will get there too is what they want. I'm not willing to pay hundreds more dollars for a nicer on board video experience or access to a lounge. I can understand why some would pay for that, I definitely wouldn't.
Why?
More flight choices, better connecting options, vastly...vastly superior frequent flyer program (maple leaf lounge, priority everything, etc), 1st class sections (with comped upgrades for frequent fliers), more comfortable coach seats, vastly...vastly superior inflight entertainment system....and yes, better customer service. Every time I've had an issue with an AC flight, I get all sorts of credits and free shit thrown at me. I got 20% off of my next booking just because my touch screen entertainment centre didn't work on a flight recently.
It's really not even close. Westjet is great if you're looking for a cheap haul from Toronto to Calgary and don't mind taking your sweet ****ing time as you connect through Thunder Bay & Winnipeg on the way. If you even remotely desire any sort of perks to your travel, or heaven forbid, non stop flights....fly AC every time.
