Yeah I keep hearing about Reimer's rebound control .... Reimer's rebound control has NOT been a problem at all in the series.

His SV% can be higher, he has been out-goaltended by Rask in at least 2 of the 4 games (you can argue 3), and the way Rask's been playing, the only shame in that is JFJ's, not Reimer's. Still, sure, our goaltending CAN improve.

But I laugh everytime someone buys the media line and talk about Reimer's rebound control.

Should Reimer improve on his rebound control? Sure, but that is NOT a problem in this series because Boston hasn't scored on his rebounds.

And, Luongo will NOT improve our goaltending. We'll be adding another goalie who is very similar to Reimer in performance, offers more experience, but creates huge media distraction, is way older and costs a lot more.

well to be fair there can be a trickle down effect from bad rebounds. a goal doesn't have to be scored directly off a rebound for rebounds to have proven costly.

sometimes you need your goalie to stop that first shot to avoid getting pinned in deep for a minute and a half. sometimes it prevents your d-men from getting battered into the boards a few times.

having said that, rebounds have never been a particularly big problem for reimer. he's 25 years old and not only is he making his nhl playoff debut, he hasn't seen a playoff gamesince 2009 in the echl, has 0 ahl playoff games under his belt and heading into this year had only 15 total if you include his echl and whl totals.

he's a kid getting his first taste. there aren't very many patrick roys. he deserves the opportunity to live and learn.

well i don't think it's so clear that luongo wouldn't improve the golatending. what reimer did this year luongo has done for most of the past decade. now, if luongo continues to be a sub 910 goalie like he was this year then no he wouldn't improve the goaltending. but the guy who went to game 7 of the cup and won a gold medal.... pretty good freakin goalie.

given the age/cost thing and reimer's performance this year, though, and you obviously don't bring lu aboard.

Really? Shots that should have been smothered end up with Boston spending way too much time in our zone...
 
Dont get it wrong guys, aside from Dougie and Wendel, since I was a kid my favorite Leafs have been the goalies... The Cat and Curtis and jesus, when we landed Belfour, I was in heaven.. Have always loved my Leaf netminders....
I really really want Reimer to be one of those guys.

Felix Potvan did quite well in his first taste of the playoffs.

Just saying.
 
I miss having a goalie who could handle the puck like a defenceman, would help the defencemen a lot and take some pressure off of the defensive face-off guys.
 
Reimer definitely hasn’t played his A game this series. His rebound control is far worse than it normally is.

But considering it’s his first NHL (or even AHL) playoff action; the playoff inexperience of the roster; that it’s the first playoff series in Toronto in 9 YEARS; and just that he’s a really young goalie who hasn’t been a starter full-time before… I can’t really fault him too much. He hasn’t been bad. He just hasn’t been very good either.

Reimer works hard, improves, battles, is mentally strong and just generally has the best attitude. I think this Leafs core will have to rest it’s Cup hopes on him.

(1) potvin, not potvan

(2) so what? potvin was great in his first taste of playoff action... and then went on to have a really subpar career.

(3) and then what happened? teams realized that he had a weak fivehole and played angles poorly and started exploiting those weaknesses


so what all that said

reimer just posted the best save percentage in a seaosn by a leafs' starting goalie since johnny bower
 
Maybe it's just me...but it's Reimers Fivehole that worries me the most. You get him moving east west and it's like the Chunnel.

Oh yeah for sure...but it's been non stop high glove hand talk for a long time now. I was just pointing out that I've noticed a bunch squeak through the Fivehole. I could be completely wrong of course....it's just something I noticed.
 
Yeah, Reimer has been king of the juicy rebound this series. I've never seen it from him before, so it's gotta be nerves. I also noticed him going into his low crouch again like last season. Kid has got to man up and play without his fear tonight.

Yea man, I know his numbers. And Raycroft has the record for most wins in a season for a Leaf.
It's a season. He had a good season statistically.
I wish I could, but right now I have no faith in him doing it consistently, because I think his weaknesses are going to expose him more and more in the long run.
