OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Massive? If I see maybe 1 Blue Jay hat or shirt here per week, that is a lot.

If it were 1994, then yes I would agree. I saw an exhibition game here between the Blue Jays and the Expires in 1994 after you had won back to back WS. It was 95% Blue Jay fans. Still there were a few of us for the Expires back then.

Blue Jay fandom out here at least has plummeted in the last few years.

That hardly means there are massive fans in the area, just means that those who are fans, as few or as numerous as they might be, are still fanatical and want to do see a game after they go to the Premium Outlets at Exit 200.

It is also not nearly as many as when I saw some Blue Jay games in Seattle in the 1980s and early 1990s. That was the heyday of Blue Jay baseball out here.

It is only anectodal but I cannot remember the last time people in my office discussed the Blue Jays, oh yeah I can, NEVER.

I meet fans from Calgary and Vancouver at virtually every game or in pubs during the summer. You strongly downplay the level of fandom associated with this team throughout the country.

Their viewership for Western and Atlantic markets is also extremely strong.

I think the raps have been so bad that they're turning fans off of the NBA altogether, not just the raps.

Meeting fans from other cities hardly means that there is a massive following. I saw a guy in a Senator jersey in the mall under my office tower today, hardly means anything more than he wants Senators to win.

If the viewership is that strong, I am sure you will find numbers to back up that assertion. All I know is that I see far more Dodger, Giants, Yankees, Mariners and even Red Sox gear here than Blue Jay.

Disagree with that, basketball will always remain popular in Toronto because of the diverse culture within Toronto. The Chinese, Africans, Indians, will all mostly gravitate to basketball upon arrival here. And with Leiweke on board, the Raptors will grow.

You're an idiot.

Yea the Raptors will always have a fans with the level of multiculturalism in the city.

Non-caucasians gravitate to Basketball.

That's what I found hilarious about MLBJB's comments about the building being full because of MLSE's corporate clout....the crowd at a Raptors game is younger, louder and far more diverse than crowds at Leaf games.

I just checked last season's date: an average of 500,000 so they would need a 40% YOY spike to hit 700K. They would need a pennant race scenario.
