2017-18 Miscellaneous News Thread

I just noticed the Toronto GM is 32. I wonder what the "hockey media" would have said if the Canes hired a 32 year old GM?

They would have said "good. He can cut his teeth in Carolina (because that's a place to Toronto writers) and then come back to the Leafs with some valuable experience."

I absolutely guarantee at least one writer would have printed that verbatim, give or take a word.

I was expecting more like " Dundon is so cheap he won't hire a guy with experience." Carolina must be a place to have 3 sports teams - Canes , Panthers, Mudcats. Maybe there are other Carolina teams I left off.

After all, you can name a team after a body of water right? Tampa Bay. Or a state nickname, Golden State. or several states, New England. :)

The Carolina Cougars remind you they were first. They played most of their games in Greensboro but also played in Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Raleigh, both Reynolds Coliseum and Dorton Arena.

I hope he's a better golfer than he is a ref, because ... let's just say that he's on my list and leave it at that.

Yeah ... expect the entirely of the Northeast to be running legal sports books inside of 6-8 months. I read an article while I was in Brooklyn in March that indicated that something like 60-70% of current illegal betting on mainstream sports comes from NY, NJ, Conn and the surrounding states.

as expected Delaware started sports betting today. The Governor bet the phillies over the cubs.

New Jersey starts on Thursday. Wagers will not be allowed on high school sports, college events taking place in the state or any event involving a New Jersey college team. Bets can be placed online, at casinos, racetracks and former racetracks. Monmouth Park Racetrack is ready to go.

I agree JB. Its sad that 'no betting on high school sports' even needed to be specifically outlined as part of the law. Did they also make sure to shut down betting on youth sports (ie the Little League World Series) as well?
