So far tonight, Wings beat the Sabres 2-1 at home.

Ducks getting crushed by Avs 4-0. Johnny Malkin err Mitchell has a goal.

All the way up until this morning, the pundits, lead by Dreger this morning, were so high on Ottawa, and Dreger's main thing was the game breaking ability of Bobby Ryan. He questions their defensive depth, but he was just raving at how good Bobby Ryan will make them.

Simmons actually really questioned him. But how could a winger like Bobby Ryan put Ottawa in the guaranteed playoff spot but not Kessel?? And I know it was only game one (Sens vs Buff) but they couldn't generate any offense until Karlsson in the final few minutes.

I know it's only one game.

Now they lose on a night Miller stopped 45 shots.

Anderson stopped 35 shots at the other end of the rink and won 1-0.

you think the Sedins walk??? isn't this there UFA year?? With Gillis only getting a first round pick for a signed goalie, he is going to be offered peanuts for the Sedins, and the Sedins could hand cuff things even more if they still say they want to be together.

If Reilly makes good would you move Gardiner in a package for the Sedins?

If the Leafs were 0-2 and people were drawing these kinds of conclusions, some people here would be apoplectic.

It's fair to question the talent level of the # 1 picks, but they are still so young, and as for this year, some of these posts are laughable. It's been 2 games.

I still think Nugent-Hopkins is going to be really, really good. Schultz is going to be a star. I said at the time they should have taken Murray over Yakupov.

Why is Brodeur starting for Jersey anyways? He's 41 and coming off 3 very not so good seasons... and even at that, the previous 2 seasons were barely above league average. It's been like 6 seasons since he's been "good."

I think it's more of a respect thing early in the season, if you go by save percentage he hasn't put up an above-average one in 3 years and he's up there in age. Obviously a legend in NJ but I suspect they are going to start playing Schneider more fairly soon. Unless he struggles as well.

I guess I'm just a bit surprised to see the hate and jumping to conclusions so early in the season. I feel like there's been a real snarkiness lately from some people on the board overall, saying some of the same things they complain about when other team's fans say them. Not a big deal; just an observation.

As for Edmonton, I cannot imagine a team could draft first overall three straight times in this day and age with advanced scouting, and not come up with at least one star player. I kind of feel like it's Nugent-Hopkins, it's fair to question Hall at this point, too early to draw any conclusions about Yakupov. 31 points in 48 games as a rookie, that's just fine. Eberle scored 76 points in 78 games 2 years ago, and is still just 23. Perron and Gagner are really good. I like Dubnyk - a question mark for sure but I think ultimately he'll be fine. The D is still a huge question mark. They could definitely consider trading one of the guys up front, for a young stud d-man.

I think they'll compete for a playoff spot for sure. I could be wrong, but let's see where they're at after 10-20 games, before drawing any real conclusions.

I picked the Oilers to make the playoffs this year but I don't like what I see so for. They look like the same team as last year just without the good goaltending.

I'm changing my pick to Winnipeg over Edm for the last playoff spot in the West. I think they're a better overall team -- but Pavelec still scares me to death.

They almost blew it again shorthanded though. There's still a lot of flaws on that team.Yes. I mean, they are simply not a very good team at all. Say all you want about 'coming back from a 3-0 hole' ... good for Eakins & co., but the reason they were down 3-0 after 40 minutes is a case for concern, and to 'come back' against a not very good club with suspect goaltending isn't exactly a great feat either.

I wish the best for Eakins, so I hope the Oilers are at least a respectable team this year, but this is simply not a very good team. Very poor goaltending, average minus blueline, and a bunch of highly skilled forwards who go out and try to play pond hockey every single game. It's a lot of work Eakins has to do.
