View Full Version : GDT FLYERS @ LEAFS

Flyers are red hot (8-2), but that's come mostly vs a light sked, which gets much harder for them the rest of the wsy, starting with tonight's game.

And of course, the leafs are also one of the hottest teams in the league (6-2-2 in last 10, 12-3-3 in last 18).

Some great news on the injury front - Clarkson may be out with injury tonight!

It's funny Toronto media ties in Jake Gardiner, or even Morgan Reilly, to the "Schenn treatment" ... saying young defensemen might be dangled around as trade bait.

Fact is, Luke is nothing like Gardiner or Reilly.

Gardiner's been held back in icetime a bit, but he still leads the team in 5on5 average icetime. Reilly actually sees his icetime go up, and mistakes go down during the season.

Schenn, OTOH, sees his icetime dropped to 6th on the team, averaging only ~16 min a game.

We shall see the difference between Schenn and Gardiner / Reilly tonight. Schenn was eventually traded because of his limitations as a NHL player, Gardiner has to overcome mental cramps.

leafman101
03-08-2014, 02:24 PM
Schenn was traded because we got JVR for him.

If we could get a similarly impactful deal for the team Gardiner could be dealt too.

Rielly is be untouchable.

Please be of the career-ending variety.

Nobody had responded and gut said Bozie even though I usually rock the one balled overlords jersey. My bozak one is signed and he had a stellar night last game. Hopefully it carries over. Anyone else going to the game tonight?

Ah, this is true. But at least you can go over the cap in the summer anyway.

number17
03-08-2014, 05:42 PM
By 10% only ... but, let's say for all intents and purposes, a retired / career-ended player's cap hit is of no consequence.

Wishful thinking though ;)

Anyways, back to tonight's game ... despite how we lost the 2-0 lead with 2 SH goals, the W over the Rangers was huge, because it put us back in 3rd in division, and ended our winless streak after the Olympics. This team plays a lot better, especially at home, after a W and pressure's off. Let's hope that is the case again tonight.

The flyers are red hot, mainly because of Giroux (and his line) ... Carlyle tried a Phaneuf - Gleason unit to shutdown the opponent's top line, but broke that up after the first period. It'll be interesting to see how he plays the Giroux line tonight.

Clarkson's no-go tonight, which is probably why McLaren was re-activated (still, I'd go with D'Amigo or Smith ahead of him ... unless he's thinking there might be fireworks against the big bad Flyers tonight)

Go leafs Go!!!

I don't know how anyone could watch the NHL at all over the past 10 years and come to that conclusion. It's the exact opposite. It's more difficult than ever to make up points at the end of the year.

As much as i like JVR, i always like Luke Schenn. I would never undo the trade or anything, but if we could reacquire him on the cheap i would be 100% game for it. If he could ever fix his skating, he'd be a much better defender.

As a bottom pairing guy, he'd be a good fit.

You could see the difference in talent between kadri and Schenn right there.

Exact same play at both ends, back to back. Schen just circles and can't do anything with the puck. Kadri quickly finds an open man and sets up a goal.

No problem with having one of Orr or McLaren dressed, it means that Kessel will get extra shifts.

Yea I'd rather have Bodie in the lineup then the other two meatheads, sorry but at least Bodie can skate/hit/good defensively wheras Orr can't even skate and Mclaren is just an OK fighter.... I never want to see those two clowns in the lineup ever again.

Not that it matters at all anyways ...
