View Full Version : GDT - Leafs @ Wings | 7:30PM SNET Wings for dinner tonight

After a 1st period letdown in Washington, the Leafs are on to the final stop of the 5 games roadtrip. Spotting a 2-2 record thus far, the Leafs can definitely call this trip a success if they come home with 2 points from tonight.

The Wings are 3 points out of the last playoff berth as of this morning, for sure they will be fighting for their lives tonight. Going 4-5-1 over its past 10, the Wings have been struggling and are definitely a very beatable team.

For the buds, I hope they learned the lesson you cannot show up 20 minutes late and hope to win the game playing 2 periods. The PK was especially awful vs. the Caps and for sure DET will try to win the games on PP tonight.

And while Detroit is fighting for its life, it's not like we're all set with position. With Tampa and MTL winning the past 2 days, we have fallen back to the wild card spot and lost home ice in round 1. It is much preferred, especially if we try to win a round this year, that we gain home ice and avoid PIT and BOS in round 1.

Let's hope we end the road trip on a high note!

Go Leafs Go!!!

They need to win this. Need to maintain separation from those bubble teams.

At worst, the Leafs need to split the next 4. And this might be the easiest of those 4 games.

If the top line can get back on track we'll win and they need to.

I'll be disappointed if the Leafs don't display some killer instinct here. The Wings are on the outside looking in, and are suffering through some pretty serious injury problems. Now's the time to stomp on their throats and leave them pretty much insurmountably behind us in the standings.

If they beat us, it'll leave them just one point behind the final wild card spot, and they'll close the gap between them and us to five points.

Far from a must win, but a huge game nonetheless.

Unfortunately the end of a long roadie is never easy, no matter who the opponent is.

A win here would sure make the homestretch a lot less nervy, that's for sure.

mbow30

I think it's pretty much in must win territory, with much tougher games coming up against 2 teams they're trailing in the division and another against the best team in the league right now.

I don't wanna keep giving the team excuses ... last game was 'the first game back in the EST time zone', this game is 'the last game of a long road trip' and the next one is "the first one back at home after a long road trip" + "back to back games" ...

Just win, baby. Just win.

Its not even a must win for detroit, let alone the leafs.

given how tight the race is, they cannot afford to keep squandering points to sub-500 teams. losses to Detroit, montreal and Tampa Bay would make home ice a stretch, and put them on the bubble for a stretch run.

This is a tough four game run, and tonight's game is by far the easiest matchup of the 4. Losing it might not be fatal to the season, but it's a game they might not be able to afford to lose.

I hope the flu is done with the team, haven't heard much about it.
I expect Reimer should have his legs under him now, he's had some starts to get into a rhythm, here's hoping he's great tonight.
And watch the rebounds, jeez...

Whatever this team is doing to start games, they need to change their routine. Whether it's the music, no vocal leader in the dressing room, whatever it is...if things aren't working, try the opposite.

I know they're a young bunch, but haven't they seen Seinfeld?

There is NO reason they should be slow to start games, they may be young but most guys are either approaching their prime or well into it. Also they are one of the fastest skating teams in the league again they should be coming out right away and using their speed to put the heat on the opposition instead of sitting back and waiting for the other team to strike.

Only they are, funny that the 1st line is running cold that goals are hard to come by, a lot of them are coming from the blueline of all places. The team MVP is out, its an out of the playoffs team without him. They have no confidence in any other goalie and playing Clarkson on important lines has killed the season and team morale. Taking out Grabovski and McArthur was brutal and replacing them with Clarkson and Raymond. Two lions lost for a pooch and a lost soul. Our offensive depth isn't the problem some would like to portray it to be, but the third line hasn't been great for a while. Peter Holland hasn't done a whole lot since that one big offensive stretch, and the line doesn't do much offensively when we're forced to have Nikolai Kulemin centering it (which shouldn't be much of a surprise). Getting Bolland back anytime soon would be a big boost.

Scoring 2.5goals per game on a tough road trip is not a cause for panic in the least. That is league average goal production.

Leafs scoring in march (9gms):

Bozie/kess/jvr: 8gls, 18pts
Naz/loops/ray: 6gls, 15pts
Kuly/sucks/holly: 0gls, 1pts
Selke/bodie/orr/ash: 1gls/4pts

Dion/cody: 2gls, 8pts
Jake/rielly: 4gls, 8pts
Ranger/gunnar/gleason: 2gls, 5pts

Lack of third line production is an issue, though.

The Carlyle quote on it's own isn't an issue. I'm worried about how Reimer's agent is feeling the need to speak out. I personally think the Leafs will play hard ball with Reimer in the summer. Further damaging player/management relations, and the he gets moved out for nothing in return.

Carlyle's comment about Reimer was stupid. Both because Reimer played very well last night and gave us more than enough chance to win, and because I don't really see the benefit of throwing players under the bus to the media. And that's what you're doing when you're asked about your goalie's performance after a loss, and sigh that he was "Just OK".

We saw enough of that shit during Wilson's tenure here, and I don't see the need for it. The coach can say whatever he wants behind closed doors, but he should have the players' backs in public.

Other than starting Bernier more(on merit for the most part) and this one comment, I can't really remember anything.

With all the great games reimer has played, have you ever heard randy say he played great?

Randy's never said that about Reimer or Bernier..the most glowing endorsement of Bernier's play was "he's paid to do that". Carlyle hasn't verbally expressed preference all season.

Bernier's had more great games and I'm not sure I've heard him say that about Bernier either.

"Just OK" is throwing someone under a bus? Jesus, no wonder everyone is so sensitive.

Amazing that this totally baseless notion of Reimer having been treated unfairly has taken root.

I dont get why everyone's up in arms either , Reimer was merely average last night posting a .903%... Carlyle was right with his assessment.

Should Carlyle have said he had a great game? He didn't.

Clarkson on 2nd line tonight while Kulemin on 4th....

Why does Randy insist on beating a deadhorse? Clarkson has never worked on the 2nd line from day 1....

Mind explaining how? Sounds like nonsense to me.

look at who you're responding to, the reason should be quite obvious.

And now his agent throws more gas on fire, prior to a huge game...**** him.

the media deserves blame here too. they know there's tension. last night after Carlyle made his comment they ran to Reimer to tell him what was said.

Good for Clarkson for knocking that POS on his ass.
