I'm expecting a big game from Reimer today.

I think we pull out the dub and Randy's noose is loosened a bit

BeLeafer
10-12-2014, 04:50 PM
I'm far from expecting it but it will be interesting to see if Randy goes with Lupul-Kadri-Kessel ... probably throwing them together in a desperate situation for one period is enough to convince him that it won't ever work.

I wouldnt mind some effort, win or lose. Just hustle, win some battles and get some pressure going.

I know its only game three, but if we dont see effort tonight, this season will be incredibly long.

Leafs go behind 2-0 early and get outplayed in the 1st but come back with 2 goals Kessel and Rielly to tie it. Back and forth the rest of the way, goes to a shootout and bozak gets the winner.

That's my prediction

This would be a good game for Reimer to shut the door.

Yeah, 'cause that's the difference.

Actually what he said makes sense, a soft goal tends to deflate a team's confidence and causes them to play tense out of fear of a mistake winding up in the net.... this goes for every team and not just the Leafs.

I noticed him do a few good things the 1st game (before the Subban goal) stood a few habs up in the neutral zone and hustled back to break up a few plays BUT after that lazy play on the Subban goal he's been a ghost out there.

Too bad about the end of the period. They came out kinda flat (though I though the Kadri line has been good every shift), Reimer held them in there until they got the pp. Kind Henry returned the favour on the second pp ... really shoulda scored there!

All in all, a pretty even period and the Leafs are at least playing better than last game ... though the first line and Dion continue to give me the willies whenever they're on the ice.

Jeremy
10-12-2014, 07:44 PM
Not a bad first period. Both teams scored, both team's game heading to the second. Would be 2-1 if Lupul's shot didn't hit the post.

leaffan2005
10-12-2014, 07:53 PM
Reimer looks good. First line still looks like shit. The Kadri and Santorrelli line are carrying the team thus far - overall not a bad period considering what we have dealt with thus far.

Pucklosopher
10-12-2014, 07:56 PM
Not a bad period by the Leafs. Reimer not letting in a softie when the shots started coming early made a big difference in keeping the team's energy up.

The coaching staff is adjusting more quickly so far this year, ie: lowering the Kessel line's minutes and giving more to the Kadri line.

Nice win by the boys. A pretty solid 60 minute effort, which they actually - gasp! - deserved to win.

Happy to see the Kadri line up to around 19 minutes. Not just that they earned the ice-time, but the coaching staff giving it to them in only the 3rd game of the season. Having a 3rd line grinding away time in the Rangers zone throughout the game made quite a big cumulative difference too.

Hope Reimer is alright, and they just took him out because we were up big. Reims was solid. I thought it was an underrated (non) move by Nonis to not move Reimer in the offseason. Having 2 young, starting caliber goalies is a whole lot more secure than only having 1.

Nice win by the boys. A pretty solid 60 minute effort, which they actually - gasp! - deserved to win.

Not sure I agree with this. They came out flat (aside from the Kadri line) and benefited from some really good work from Reimer early and total sieve performance from Lundqvist. The third line got going as the game went on and really helped to maintain the advantage. But, despite the points, the Bozak line was as inept as ever defensively and possession-wise.

I agree though that it was good to see Carlyle finally giving Kadri some ice time. Probably win the first game if he'd done that.

I also thought Percy had his first iffy game. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but he made a number of defensive zone turnovers and blew his coverage on the third goal. Probably to be expected ... rookie playing first back-to-back and all.

He's right though, past 2 games Bernier's given up an early stinker which takes the life out of the sails and kills team confidence, funny thing is Riemer weathers the storm tonight and they gain confidence and play a much better game. Before all the Bernier lovers get on me, he played solid for the most part last year and gave the team a chance to win, so there's that, it's just this year so far he hasn't been up to snuff in net.

Reimer is okay phew; hope he gets next start

He should, he's earned it.

Reimer was awesome, held us in there in the first until we found our legs. Sucks to see him take another hit to the head from Dom Moore of all people.

First line was better tonight, but still pussy soft in their own end. The Kadri line has been our best line, I really like Winnik but would love to see what Naz could do with more talent on his wings.

Clarkson had a really good game. That line was great, solid defensively, able to forecheck, physical.

Percy continues to look really good. Pretty sure Randy used them as the second pair and Rielly-Franson as the third. Franson... typical Franson, good offensively, then a bonehead play leading to a goal, and also running around on the third goal.

Nice to get a win and see some offence though. Suicide watch postponed again until next loss.

They have to repeat this effort on Tuesday. Hopefully it only took the one game to realize they're nothing special if they don't work hard.

I'm pleasantly suprised, at least in the short term, that it was gardiner to come out for franson......because, to be honest, he was definitely the one who deserved it based on the first two games. and it's nice to see Franson immediately show why he's still a useful asset.

of course, where we go from here is a bit murkier. who comes out for gardiner now?

Percy probably.

and I have to say that the fourth line looked pretty good in game 1 (with winnik and frattin) and has looked like dogshit the last two games (with panik and kozun).

Winnik is looking like a great signing so far, but yeah, the fourth line was atrocious in Pittsburgh. Better today, but not looking great.

That Shitniak goal was the perfect example of why Franson sucks. He just skated right by the net into the corner. No one was behind the net. The puck was in front of the net. What the hell is that guy thinking most of the time?

Percy can't come out. He's been one of their best dmen.

he is a very similar player to Kulemin, but much smarter.

(though he doesn't have kuly's shot)

Just because it deserves to be said again. Percy is really, really good. The guy just has no panic with the puck and can take that extra second to make a play. His play with the puck in his own zone is Kaberle esq, minus the crazy passing ability. He makes very few mistakes and when he does he recovers. He doesn't go into panic mode and start chasing guys.

I knew he was a good, reliable defensemen, but I was never sure about his offense because his numbers were solid but never really stood out. But he did score at a 30 point pace as a 20 year old rookie in the AHL. I didn't see the Bozak goal in Pittsburgh, but Percy created the Bozak goal in the first game, and the Clarkson goal last night.

He's essentially Paul Martin.

If he keeps playing like this you can't take him out. The season is really early still but at this point he's passed Gardiner and Rielly on the depth chart.

The funny thing is, Cherry goes on a rant on Saturday night and the Leafs never drafting Ontario players, and never once mentioned Percy.

The man is a bigot and completely intolerant of there being a European who gets a big bunch of attention and accolades. There's a total of 2 Europeans on the entire roster and the Leafs have been drafting piles of NA players, including good ol' Canadian boys. But, hey, Don tells it like it is.

I enjoy Don, the guy generally has a very intelligent mind for the game and he's not politically correct either which I admire. However, I found his rant to be incredibly irrational on Saturday and that's me putting it mildly! First off, haven't the Leafs drafted the most Canadians in the past 5 years? If that's true then Don was inaccurate of his assessment of the Leafs not drafting Canucks. Secondly, to me it doesn't ethnicity or skin color has **** all to do with how well or poorly players preform on the ice... let me put it to you this way the Leafs have 1001 issues they need to improve on but drafting a certain skin color isn't one of them. Don loves to bash the Euro's and Russians but they have a lot of two way players that I'd love the Leafs to acquire, right off the bat Kopitar comes to mind that guy has morphed into IMO an elite 2 way top centre.

The Leafs problem with drafting stems from them chucking their picks away like their going out of style, and also not being patient enough with the players they do draft... those to me are the two big areas that I'd be worried about, not the skin color or country where the player was born.

a little premature to be saying it but you're right that he has looked every bit this good so far,

btw - that bozak goal vs, pittsburgh was all about the nifty pass from percy, too. the puck came up the boards on percy's offhand, and without even hesitating percy with his head up surprises everyone by saucering a backhand pass right across the slot to a wide open bozak in front.

Techinally half and half, the western part of Russia lies in Europe, the eastern half lies in Asia.
