Guess I win the JackOff for Eichel...or whoever MLB's version is.

Kinda ironic that Blueman had the 1st and 5th best chances of winning... and he ended up with 1st and 5th, but with the opposite picks.

So guess I'm 6th. Was the lottery only the top 5?

Yeah, only top 5. I don't really like doing a lotto. I'd like to find a more interesting way of doing it in the future.

Yeah, was funny the way it worked out. Only had a 5% chance of winning with his own pick.

Hopefully this helps balance losing out Tavares a little bit. That stung.

I don't really like that Blueman's "1st" overall pick, can fall all the way to 5th.....something similar happened last year, and I think it's a mistake in how we do our lottery.

Everyone in the lottery should have a shot at first.....but I don't think 2-5 or whatever, should then be "lottorized" as well.

On second thought tho, maybe I'm wrong....maybe that's a worthwhile way of combating tanking.

Yeah, that's how I look at it. I'm mulling over some ideas for the number #1 pick draw...like predicting the playoff outcome in MLB and the major awards or something. Do it in Spring Training. Whoever from the bottom 5 teams has the most right answers at the end of the year wins the #1 pick. Just spit balling a more fun idea than a lotto that everyone has to trust me with.

Love the imagination, but I'm not sure turning the draft lottery into trivia night at the bar, is a path I'd be very enthusiastic about us exploring.

In terms of trusting you with the draft lottery tho, I don't think that's an issue whatsoever.....feel like everyone is pretty confident that that's all on the up & up.

I think the issue is that 1st and 5th have the same odds, the lottery makes sense, but the odds should be weighted and 5th place should have the least odds of getting the 1st pick overall.

Also, this is just for the 1st round, correct? And the rest of the rounds go back to reverse standings?

Actually it is weighted. 40%/30%/15%/10%/5% chance of winning. 5th place just happened to win this year.

Correct.

Yeah, that's fair. It's too bad the MLB doesn't use a lotto we could follow.

Yeah I know. I just would prefer a different method.

I think this system is fine.

Thanks Deckie! I also think it's fine. Limits tanking and doesn't crush any teams in the meantime.

What happens as we draft guys? Is there a time period where we can have more than 50 protected? Or do we have to updated our protected/unprotected each draft pick?

Habspatrol

I think you have to drop players in order to add new players.

braby21

So theoretically, if every team had 5 picks, their 5 unprotected players would be dropped and replaced by their new draft picks. Correct?

Habspatrol

In theory... but most teams will be adding prospects and will have to drop prospects. Also if you draft from someone's unprotected list that opens up a spot on their bench for them to draft someone.

I moved his protected list to the right thread.

This is actually a good question to explore a bit further. What I think we should be doing is allowing the drafted players to sit in limbo for a pre determined period of time to allow the owner to clear roster spots for his newly drafted property. I'd personally be good with it as long as every club was within their proper roster limits the day before opening day.

Blueman

okay - then the dropped players are first come first serve via waiver order?

Montana
02-16-2015, 08:17 PM
People should be dropping players to make room for their newly drafted guys.......so that the players that are being dropped, are available to be drafted.

There's no real value imo, to allowing teams to go over the roster limit........people should do their research before the draft, know the 3-5 guys they'll be dropping, and drop them as they draft new players.

I agree MindzEye. It will be impossible to police anyways. We make sure everybody's rosters are good as of March 1. We draft during March. And then everybody's rosters have to be good again as of April 1. Something like that anyways. As of April 1 all free players are thrown into the waiver wire.

Those dates may not make sense, but just throwing it out there.

....given that people would be picking up their drafted players on Fantrax, and need to drop a corresponding roster player to make room.....I would think it would be pretty straight forward.

Once the draft starts, the season starts.....and drafting a player and adding him to your roster should be no different than picking up someone on waivers.

It's much easier to police if we just have roster limits in place before the draft starts. You draft someone and don't have room... well then you have to drop someone.

Nice and easy with no confusion.

Deckie007

Yeah that's always been the policy. If you can fit the player don't need to drop anyone. Otherwise you have to make room.
