OT: American Politics

Meanwhile Orwell's nightmare continues apace, without any controversy in the corporate media:

You do know what the "Asian pivot" is about, right?

Anyway, I do agree with Bacevich...
The military historian Andrew Bacevich has spent years warning that US policy planners have adopted an explicit doctrine of "endless war".

I think the US needs to back out of the Middle East as much as possible and asap, but I don't see a easy way out (and the kernel of the problem goes waaaay back).

All this moaning strikes me as unrealistic and cheap sanctimony. The US will always have a huge military budget, even if it doesn't have a damn fool foreign policy (e.g. hitching their wagon to the Saudis) or if they aren't actively participating in a war. And conflating military spending with medicare is silly; defence spending is non-issue re: the long term fiscal condition of the US government (as is social security, it barely moves the needle). Health care is the 8000 lb gorilla. That's an actuarial fact.

yeah, because ABC has shown itself to be soooooooo hostile to hopeychange in the past. gotcha.

In that April interim report on Benghazi (which Buck noted)*, the House Republicans cited these emails (in footnotes 56 and 57) to note an important point: “State Department emails reveal senior officials had ‘serious concerns’ about the talking points, because Members of Congress might attack the State Department for ‘not paying attention to Agency warnings’ about the growing threat in Benghazi.”

(*Brendan Buck is John Boehner’s press secretary)

This means that Republicans altered the emails on purpose in order to fit their narrative.
So much for that attempt. Nice try, KB.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

But wait, there's more...
The Senate’s internal economy committee sanitized the original audit of Sen. Mike Duffy’s expenses to remove damning findings, documents obtained by CTV News show.

A confidential report obtained by CTV’s Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife shows the original version of Duffy’s audit found that the senator broke the Senate’s “very clear” and “unambiguous” residency rules.

The report found that Duffy stayed in his Prince Edward Island cottage mostly during the summer months. He had listed it as his primary residence, which allowed him to claim an annual housing allowance given to senators who live more than 100 kilometres from Ottawa.

Duffy’s air travel pattern also showed he lived in Ottawa and he had registered his address in the capital “for several official purposes,” according to the original report.

The report also reveals that Duffy’s lawyers sought to have him exempted from the forensic audit.

All of that was missing from the rewritten audit report that was tabled in the Senate and made public.

... and they called the government before them the "fiberals..."

I buy that. These kook employees at the IRS should be shit canned asap (seriously, WTF?) and quite possible a few of their bosses up the line.

Doesn't mean it's a legit political scandal.

that and the president only appoints two people to the irs, one of whom is the commissioner, and the commissioner at the time of the 'scandal' was appointed by.......... george bush.

And you expected what? Do you realize that we are an ever decreasing vocal minority?

BTW....I was got into a conversation with several cops in Greece while they processed my fathers police ID. Yes, police ID. All Greeks need it to prove who they are.

So the conversation went to privacy. The prevailing response was that they had nothing to hide and why then should they care about cameras or tracking. So I made it personal and and asked one officer if he had a trail of child porn that led to one suspect, what would he assume? To which he responded "it's obvious that he is guilty". So did two other cops. To which I responded, what if I was a cop and had an personal issue with one of you or a citizen, could I not use the tracking system to plant a trail of child porn? After all, I know where that person went and the trail of evidence would follow. And we already had a "guilty" conviction from three cops. They fell over each other with the old standby....it couldn't happen, no cop is that corrupt or vindictive. Apparently Greek cops are made from unicorn fairy dust........and poop.

Yeah.....I feel so safe already.......:banghead:

obvious is obvious

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/foxs-bri...ink-of-impeaching-obama-over-recent-scandals/

Conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham asked Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume to comment on how some Republican leaders have “ran to the microphone” to suggest removal of Obama from office.

His response:

“I think it’s stupid for them to say stuff like that. These cases will be driven by the facts, which is what’s happened so far. Information drives these things and big talk about extreme measures — and most people in this country, I think, regard impeachment as extreme measure, necessary in some rare cases — is way premature and only runs the risk of having this appear to be political on their side. The administration’s defense, you hear it all the time, is that this is just a political circus. So what happens next? These guys start running out into the middle of the ring and starting proving that its a political circus.”

it doesn't "appear' political, Brit, it just is.

Which does not negate responsibility.

After today's testimony, it's crawling up the tree.

in case anyone is still confused at what exacty happened with the benghazi story this past week or two, maddow breaks it down very clearly:

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/rachel-maddow-takes-abc-news-to-woodshed-over-benghazi-non-emails/

and yes, I know many of you will dismiss that link just because it's maddow, even though it's just plain stated facts.

Oh I see. Stand down republicans. Stand down congressional committee. Maddow has figured it all out for us.

News flash? This didn't become a story because ABC released emails. This became a story when an an ambassador was fricasseed and the adminstration clearly invented a fantastical story to try to explain it away.

Newsflash: ABC didn't release any emails. The GOP doctored up an email, and sold the story to ABC, who didn't check their facts before reporting on it. That's when it became a story - and not the story the GOP had originally intended it to be.
