2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

That also takes a penalty killer out of the lineup. Marty was averaging 1:41 per game, 6th among forwards behind Aho, Staal, Haula, McGinn and Turbo. Wallmark and Foegele will probably pick up the slack, they’re both below 1 minute per game.
Both spent enough time killing penalties last season that I'm not concerned.

Get well soon - but I am looking forward to seeing Gauthier get some meaningful minutes with the big boys.

Also its funny to see 'new member' under my name when i have been here since 2011 (1997 if you count FanHome or whatever it was). LOL I should post more often
Yeah ... the new board software only pulled post numbers from the last iteration of the board. IIRC you didn't post a lot once we shifted to Forum Ice, so you fall into the newb column.

Nice to see you back by the way. I'll be down in Fayetteville soon for Fayetteville Comic Con at the Crown Events Center.

Wouldn't it make more sense to slide McGinn down to line 4 and have Gauthier play in the top 6? There are a few options to swap some lines around to make that possible. Not that playing with Foegele and Wallmark is terrible

Yes. Gauthier skated in the top 6 and on the 4th line in pre-season, although I don’t remember if he was with Staal specifically.

It would, yes ... but you know how it goes with McGinn. He's going to remain in the Top 6 for some stupid Chad LaRose related reason.

And hey, every single NHL has coach has "his guy" so this is not really a crack at Brind'Amour. Peters had Ryan, Mo had 20 different guys over the years starting with poor, over-slotted Bobby Kron, and Lavi had Chad. Muller was too brain dead to notice that the players had different numbers.

And McGinn ain't all that bad. Just he's officially the guy on our team with hands of stone, lately anyway. He's had his chances. We know what we got with him. Anyway, I fully expect RBA to throw Gauthier out on the powerplay, at least one, opportunity provided.

When he does score, it's been on a Nic Wallin level, though. ;)

Elliotte Friedman reported that the Carolina Hurricanes, St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning had shown some interest in Edmonton Oilers Jesse Puljujarvi. TSNs Darren Dreger noted that teams are noticing Puljujarvi’s play overseas.
Who could Puljujarvi fit with?

Carolina Hurricanes – Still tied to Puljujarvi, with Julien Gauthier name linked. He could fit what the Oilers are looking for.

From MyNHLTradeRumors.com

Meh ... I'm not that sold on Puljujarvi. Certainly not enough to hand the Oilers Gauthier for him just when the kid is showing sings of NHL life.

I was kind of leaning towards acquiring him, but now after getting a good and positive sample of Gauthier, I'd rather stick with our known quantity. Now if the Oil want to over pay, that's another story. =D

The report also mentioned that the Eds would probably want a defensemen with Larson out for a while. I don't see an opportunity here.

Honestly? I like our group as it is and I think management does too. If they make any roster moves it's going to be due to serious injury to someone or to shake things up if something has gone off the rails ... at least until later on in the season. Those sneaky value moves? That's stuff you do in the off season or when you have a roster in flux or when you're still looking to climb. This team should be pretty well set.

I agree JB. Kind of the wrong time to trade Gauthier for another forward, we are on the cusp of seeing what Gauthier might be able to offer and Puljujarvi so far hasn't shown much of anything in the AHL or NHL. Now if Edmonton wants to give us Puljujarvi for Rowland McKeown and a 3rd round pick, then by all means please proceed.

I'd give them Fleury, and that's about it.
Maybe ... and only when TVR is closer to returning and/or Priskie is a little more up to Pro speed. Even then, where are you going to fit Puljujarvi in this roster? I don't see making that kind of move just to park him in the A and risk alienating a player who has already shown that tendency.

More on Puljujarvi and Gauthier from ProHockey Rumors.

Of course, the Oilers could also try to pry Gauthier out of Raleigh without moving Puljujarvi. Tyler Benson, Kailer Yamamoto, and Ryan McLeod are all promising young forward prospects that the team could dangle for the Hurricanes as part of the return for Gauthier. If Edmonton truly has their mindset on acquiring the up-and-coming power forward and Carolina does not share in their high regard for him, a deal is very likely to be made, one way or another.

Gibbons on the ice at RCI today on the line with Wallmark and Foegele. No other changes. They left for LA after practice.
