Habs News & Notes: Regular Season 2019-2020

You've accepted mediocrity, just admit it. I won't, this franchise has too rich of a history. What has MB shown in 9 years, how many SC finals, and how many cups? The fact we still have a mediocre farm, mediocre team with a cap, and we're now what, almost a decade into it and we've just switched from the half ass rebuild to now winning? A positive would have been a complete rebuild, which I've been preaching for 10+ years. I've been right because this team has proven to be wrong every year. I'm not miserable, I'm just frustrated with how the team is run and how the fans have accepted it. My day will come, I just hope I am alive to see it!
I haven't accepted squat and am also vocal in criticism. I do know when to give someone their due and see potential in something prior to having the same knee-jerk reaction you seem to have over everything. Geeman is the same way. I'm just trying to help man.

It also helped that I have seen, and remember, numerous cups in my life. That just makes you want another more IMHO.

Also, you've been right? Everyone here has been right over the last 15 years because we all know the team wasn't built to win. This is not an exceptional thought man. We just choose to moderate the criticism with the possibility of improvement. You do have to adimt that, even though there is a lack of elite talent, the team as constructed is far better than last years. That is not to say it is a Cup Contender but to say that there is potential there. Sure there are risks but no reward comes without them.

Considering the bar was set so low with some of the rosters we've had, yes you are right.

Your still young , Habsy , I and others may need some assistance if this drags another few decades

I applauded the Max trade , KK , and the Anderson, Allen and TT signings

Cant defend the bad drafting or the terrible Chevy trade

Patching has got us nowhere but Nero is all in , it works or he and the team is done cause we hitched our wagon to declining assets

Team is deeper , hope is with a condensed schedule and possible non home venues anything can happen

I like the moves this offseason, balance and depth at all positions makes up for lack of pure elite talent. I would still like to see a puck moving defensemen and the Drouin-Sergachev trade is still hurting us.

Bergevin seems to be alternating between great and bad off-seasons.

2017 was a disaster at all level and we're still paying the price. Fail to resign Radulov and Markov, trade for Drouin, trade for Schlemko, sign Alzner, Hemsky, Streit, Martinsen and Jerabek. AND extends Carey Price to that horrible contract. It's a disaster of comical proportion and one that would have justified being fired.

2018 is the opposite, almost all winners. Trade Galchenyuk for Domi, trade Max for Suzuki, Tatar and a 2nd, get Arnia for free, get Kulak for free, finally change AHL staff and put Bouchard there. Draft is looking good with KK, Romanov, and potentially Ylonen and Harris.

2019, he doesn't do much, which is fine as we could use another rebuilding year. Trade Shaw for picks, sign Chiariot, sign Kincaid (a disaster again). Manage to stockpile picks during the season.

2020 is looking good. All pressure on Julien now (whom I still have no faith in).

Win by committee is great but rarely works in the playoffs without top talent

Blues maybe the closest to it but ROR , Pietro and others were elite when it mattered

Yes 2017 summer was a disaster and all on MB no question about it. Just pointing out as Mitch Melnick did again this week....Drouin was acquired to complement the 16-17 team that lacked offense not replace Radulov, the $ set aside that summer were targeted for Radulov & Markov and never spent thereafter, hence being under the cap last 2-seasons, as part of the 5-year budget planning. MBs error was the miscalculation of what Radulov & Markov were going to sign for...

The opposite is also true, with recent Pittsburgh cups being the exception. I'm not going to claim that we're a Cup favorite, but now we're a playoff team, and one that could make some damage if things falls in place at the right time.

We have elite talent in goal (if rested), but never had the right balance up front to score goals when the other team is playing prevent defense. I think we're in better shape offensively now.

We will need 4 lines contributing on 8 cylinders , Nick and KK have to turn it up 2 notches or we are in trouble

Yup. The theory here is let the Danault line keep the opponents top line off scoreboard then best them with your other lines. It'll work on most nights. There are teams that are deeper than us though, Tampa is one, Toronto and Colorado are others.

Let’s not kid ourselves; Habs are going all in with a weak hand. In the playoffs, Price needs to be Roy and some 3rd liner has to be Claude Lemieux

Yes but one of the times it worked was Julien’s 2011 Bruins - which this team resembles IMO.

Disagree - I’d say this Habs team (on paper) is deeper than the 93 Cup team. Remember that 93 team needed a non-NHLer in Paul DiPietro to have an out-worldly playoffs to get where they did.

Not according to Gord Miller, Ray Ferraro, Craig Button and McGuire. Can they all be wrong?
