The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

I don't really get the "woe is me" reaction to that cap news.

Whether the cap was staying flat or going up substantially, Auston was going to be getting his $15M+ on his next deal regardless. So better that we'll have more overall cap space to work with when that happens.

Yeah, I'm not sure why that reaction either really. We don't actually have a ton locked up long-term and it'll probably be for similar % of the cap in the end.

I'd have to think Auston actually cares about winning.

By that do you mean you think he'll take less?

For reference's sake, when Crosby signed his deal, it was for 14.5% of his team's cap. And Ovechkin's big long-term deal was for about 16.5% of his team's cap space back when he signed it. Under a $92M cap, an equivalent deal for Auston would be about $13.5-15M.

It's up to him. Leafs will give him whatever he wants. He saw how other teams' stars were able to win.

Don't joke about Engvall. I'm still getting over Mikky, though if he plans to be injured for most of his time there, I'll grieve his loss with ease.

LOF seems like the type who gets emotionally attached to down roster players. Especially when they happen to be home grown. So I suspect this is a trend that will continue indefinitely during the MMN years.

It's adorable tbh
right up until free agency hits and he expects them to sign vastly below market deals to stay (which is then used as justification to support resigning them ad nauseam), and then gets disappointed when they accept market value to go somewhere else.

Getting time for Robertson to show something. That line is a big opportunity for him.

Those top two lines there are plausible opening night lines if Tavares and Engvall are still out. Though Engvall is most likely in so one of Holmberg, Malgin, Robertson will be booted out by opening night, and another one booted out when Tavares is healthy.

Didn't see the other games but I'll give this one a gander tonight. Very curious to see what the Holmberg hype is about. And yeah, Robertson has to be a standout for once.
