Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

Connor has full NMC. He can Mitch Marner them if he wants to.
This is true

I dont think Connor is that asshole.

I suspect he lets them know he isnt re-signing and works with them on an extremely limited basis to recoup assets in a trade

Or they win a cup with the new boss and he extends.

I dont see him just Marnering them into a rights trade, but he could i suppose.

I also suspect the list of teams interesting to McDavid is longer than just TOornto

If/When they do move him they are going to need to decide if they want the best futures deal or a team that keeps them competitive in the Leon window and take like 6 quarters for a 5 dollar bill.

I expect the dumbest choice.

Apparently whenever any of the hockey insiders speak, it’s mana from the heavens and therefore must be true. Even when they contradict eachother 🤷‍♂️

Mcdavid will walk from Edmonton. Why would he make his future team (leafs) pay any assets when they can use those same assets to improve the team he’ll be joining and resigning with?

I actually thought we were going to hire Laviolette. Do we bring in Marc Crawford for an interview? Wasn’t he on the short list of names prior to Berube? What’s his story now? He stepped down due to mental health reasons in says on Wiki. He was coach of Matthews preNHL.

The Oilers are going to have this year with him and then they're going to squeeze out the final year of his contract and their window by doing anything to win a Cup before he leaves. He will quite reasonably and justifiably play the "I already extended without knowing what was in store once" card and this time will say that he'll reevaluate in the offseason, his goal is to win a cup, etc. But anyone with a brain will know that he's done there, and why would he uproot and accept a trade to a contender in his final year when they're supposedly a contender themselves. He'll stay with them, lose, and then leave. And the Oilers will trade Drai that offseason and blow the whole thing up.

The thing about these friendly with the media guys like Futa, Laviolette, and Gillis is they use them to get their name out there for advertising.

Sometimes it works

On Saturday Chayka said they haven’t started the second round and aren’t in a rush, but at the same time he was offering the job to Laviolette?

My interpretation of this is that Laviolette was one of the 20,000 people Chayka’s interviewed on Zoom and he really wants the Leaf job, so he’s using his media contacts to create a false sense of urgency on the Leafs end—that they’d better hire him now or lose him.

The leafs might be waiting for the Marlies season to end so they can do a fulsome interview with gruden, who had had a lot of success as a head coach.
