Wait. Am I missing something? Why are people surprised that an NHLer does coke? Isn't it kind of accepted that at least half do that shit fairly aggressively? I'm more surprised that he got caught. That shit leaves your system real quick. Bad timing to get tested I suppose.

Coke can be detected up to 10 days later when testing for the metabolite. Normal testing for the drug is 72 hours.

Any reason he didn’t re-sign with the Blues? He was their hometown hero. Cap issues?

St. Louis is pretty deep up front, and has a healthy crop of young forwards all pushing for spots in the lineup and more opportunity. And really, a big goal or two in the playoffs and heart-warming personal story/hometown boy angle notwithstanding, Patrick Maroon just isn't a very good player.

So I can understand why St-Louis seems to have decided that it wasn't worth bringing him back even at a rock-bottom price.

Tampa, on the flip-side, has really thinned out their bottom two lines this summer. So I'd guess they're just fishing for warm bodies that might have a chance of being an upgrade on the guys they've already got competing for those spots.

Somewhat interesting news ... the Arizona Coyotes’ new owner is Latino (first Latino majority owner in the NHL).

Smart decision by Puljujarvi. You only get one hockey career, and the Oilers have made a mess out of his so far.

McDavid should be taking notes.

Cathal Kelly had an interesting article in the Globe today...

basically said McDavid looks miserable and the season hasn't even started yet. he insinuates that McDavid is realizing that he can either be an Oiler, or be happy. and to be happy, he's gonna have to piss off some Oilers fans. but we may be getting to that point...

it's funny how much shit the Leafs and Habs get no matter what, when the Oilers have been a joke of a franchise for the better part of a decade. Joke isn't even strong enough, abomination is probably more accurate. Just remarkable incompetence to waste a talent like McDavid. But yeah, good move for Puljujarvi.

And they can't win with that team. It's so bad. Shocking they had so much lottery luck the system was changed and yet here they are.
I have to laugh on Twiiter at all of the angry Oiler fans saying the Toronto media is out to get them. We get daily stories for a year about every leaving via offersheets. LOL

McDavid skipped a bunch of summer stuff and is apparently 100% focused on Edmonton this year. Trained with James Neal in the off season, etc.

That feels a lot like he doesn't want to leave anything on the table when he asks out, wants to feel like he did everything he could. Said in interviews yesterday that you can't be considered a legit great without winning.

he also waffled when asked directly if he thought the Oilers would make the playoffs this year. not a good sign.

and his first comments on the Lucic trade were about how much he'll miss Looch.
