New Canadian Politics Thread

OPP move in to dismantle first nations blockade near Belleville.

Trudeau tried, but this was always destine to end up in confrontation.

Well, shit.

Since a couple of other Provincial courts have ruled the opposite way, and the matter’s currently before the Supreme Court, this won’t really change anything.

Though once the Supreme Court most likely overturns this decision, Jason Kenney will at least have more fuel for the rage & grievance machine that is Alberta.

CP and CN were sharing rail line in order to get around the Belleville blockade.

The feds and the rail companies kept it under wraps to prevent the blockade from spreading to CP rail lines.

Sneaky sneaky

Sophie Trudeau experiencing "mild flu-like" symptoms, so she and Justin are going into isolation. Knowing the state of Canadian politics, it's about 50/50 there's a pre-planned Scheer or McKay tweet going out today that will complain about Justin not showing up in Parliament.

Speaking of MacKay...

Apparently Peter MacKay sent out an e-mail blast to his mailing list this morning addressing COVID-19.

The most urgent action he believes the Canadian government needs to take in response to this crisis?

Cancel the carbon tax, obviously.

Trudeau is going to actually crush them next election somehow. They're really only interested in speaking to their flatland base.

I need to vent. This virus is really bringing out blue collar contempt for white collar people. It's something I've really noticed as I've gone from working blue collar jobs when I was young to a professional office job now. Definitely not all, but ALOT of blue collar people really seem to hate white collar folks.

Like the amount of people going on about "quit with the work from home talk. Those of us in the real world can't work from home we have to keep the economy moving. So why should office workers or the prime minister be able to?"

Maybe because we're trying to contain a deadly virus?

It's so odd. Most office job people I know really respect trades guys and the skills and smarts it takes to do those jobs, physical labour etc. and theres this insecurity or something on their side.

Like in the summer when there's a heat wave I'm not allowed to mention the heat because I work in the air conditioning while they work in the heat and humidity.

I don't remember forcing anyone's career on them. If you wanted air conditioning and work from home you chose wrong, so shut the fuck up. I complain about my job too but I don't hate blue collar guys for their lack of forward head posture, vitamin d intake, and perks like being able to swear and tell offensive jokes at work.

Alright I feel better.

Jealousy is a hell of a drug.

I'm honestly not too surprised.

The only thing MacKay really has going for him is that he's a decent-looking dude with a lot of name recognition.

If you go through his career in politics though, he was a fuck-up or poor performer in pretty much every cabinet post Harper shuffled him into during the CPC's time in government. And of course, his first step onto the national political stage was winning the PC leadership on a promise not to merge with the Reform/Alliance, and then immediately reneging on that promise and presiding over the dissolution of his party.
