2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Or you could argue why draft a wide receiver when your offensive line can't give the qb time to make halfway decent throws.
They really got that under control in the second half of last season. Not to say you can't be better, but Young had ample time to operate once he came back in the lineup.

The defense however ... is historically bad and in need at virtually every position group.

I really like the Tetairoa McMillan pick by the Panthers. He doesn't have the speed that you would like to see in WR, but dude the is big and strong with great hands and wins contested catches with his strength. He's perfect for Bryce Young. I wouldn't be mad if they picked up a good tight end from somewhere as well.

The problem being that what he seems like to me is Keon Coleman. Who looked OK in Buffalo's offense, but a lack of ability to separate is a BIG deal in the NFL. And that's the knock on both of them. They got the highest rated wideout in a weak year for wideouts. And look, I know that Carter was the only no-brainer edge guy, but you don't have to just sit there. You could have looked at trading up for Graham or down to add some picks and get a lower profile guy a bit cheaper. It wasn't a great draft class, but it WAS strong at interior defensive line ... and again, you need help EVERYWHERE on D.

Can Bryce's arm keep up with a receiver that can create separation? I don't know and that's why I think this pick was good for him. A guy that can jump high and battle for the ball. Buffalo's QB can hit those speedsters in his sleep, and Bryce ain't no Josh Allen.

The Washington Commanders are moving back to Washington. They reached a multi-billion dollar deal with the city to build a new stadium with retail, housing and park space on the site of RFK Stadium. The Commanders will pay $2.7 billion for the domed stadium, the city will pay at least $500 million for infrastructure improvements. But the total cost to DC is expected to top $1 billion when parking and other facilities are included in the bill. They hope to have the new stadium ready for the 2030 season.

Good for them I guess, but that's a lot of taxpayer dosh and they don't have one of those entertainment and recreation taxes to take up the slack.

I hope y'all don't mind a bit of bragging on my little girl, but she graduated this weekend from NCSU Engineering w/ a 4.0 GPA. She was one of the 6 civil engineering valedictorians.

I'm soooooooo glad she rolled far away from my academic tree.

Ceremony was in McKimmon and I was on the aisle to see her walk in w/ the grads. I was stumped she was so close to the front of the line, which killed any chance of a picture. After they announced the honors students, I understood. Duh!

congratulatios to your daughter!
which part of civil engineering?
my son graduated from there in civil engineering contract management and now works for Restorepros/fleet rsp. They do home/commercial restoration after storms, fires, floods, whatever.
Civil engineering is wide open in many areas.

Thanks.
CE sure is open and I learned more about what they do when she started. Hell, I've only been working with CEs and structural engineers for (gulp!) 41 years now!
She will be a structural engineer. Moving to Richmond at the end of May to start a job there.

I had 3 roommates my senior year of college, a civil, a chemical and a mechanical engineering major. We graduated during the 1982 recession so the accounting major got the only job offer in his field. The CE wanted to work for one of the big construction contractors…Turner, Fluor, etc. No one was building big projects so no one was hiring. He went to law school to delay repaying his student loans. He’s a partner in a law firm now, most of his clients are municipal government utility commissions.

The chemical engineer has had mostly mechanical jobs. The mechanical engineer eventually ended up in his field. He was involved in the New Horizons Pluto flyby and his team was visited by Brian May, who collaborated on the project. So he became the 2nd of our group to meet a rock star.

I ran the co-op intern program, started it from scratch. My co-ops were all different types of engineers and computer science types. I think I even had music majors.
note the program was not a programming type. none had any experience in what they were doing as it was building and trouble shooting internet networks. I didn’t have time for training but arranged for a team lead show the basics of the different protocols. other than that was the books. They were from all over the world. NCSU had the best.

Thanks.

Excellent ... good structural engineers are never out of work.
