All the jays need to do is
    - find a joey bats from the scrap heap
    - find an edwing from the scrap heap
    - trade for an MVP
    - develop a roy halladay

that combined with bo, biggio, vlad, etc should be enough

    Also Giles >> Sanchez.

If the Jays were a good team I would go with Sanchez in the 8th and Giles in the 9th. However, the team is complete shit so they should likely both be traded. This team needs to do everything it can to make sure if can compete at some point while Vlad is still affordable.

I'm not convinced they can do that without going back to at least the 2013-2017 spending level. They are simply too thin prospects wise for pitching and OFer's.
Giles should actually bring in a great return. He's been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year, and other than a year and a bit of meltdown he had at the end of his time with the Astros (where even then his FIP was still solid, just had terrible LOB and BABIP), has had a good track record.

I mean, teams aren't going to be stupid and give us what Chapman brought back when he was dealt years ago, but he should still fetch a pretty good prospect from a team looking for a backend bullpen piece. That's been one of Shatkins best trades to date (although not that Osuna has really had any issues since coming back, Giles has been better).

Vladi will be affordable under any scenario . This team is not spending until they get back to some level of being competitive .

The next few years is all about development and see what players can show anything to stick around .

Davidi put it best , Jays have missed on too many first rounders and other draft picks for many years prior to 2016 .

The feeder system was terrible and we traded away many other assets to win now .

Paying Vlad is the least of our problems .

You need a talent base first before you throw money at anything . Yanks/Sox/ Rays have simply been superior at the draft table over the last decade and you can find talent regardless of draft position.

Core players are on their roster now and Boston can add a Martinez or Sale to put them over the top .

We did that in the 80`s and 90`s.

    Nothing you said is relevant.

And the 2018 Boston team example is terrible to support your argument. Boston's homegrown core is really only 3 players (Bradley isn't good and Devers is still developing). Nearly their entire pitching starting staff was bought or traded for (Sale, Price, Porcello, Evoladi, Kimbrel, Pomeranz). Add in Martinez, Nunez, Leon, Pearce and Moreland -- nearly 75 percent of the roster was from outside the organization.

This is the AL East, not the AL Central.

Drafting is obviously important in any league, but in the AL East and with a generational player on the team right now, the team needs to spend by 2022. That gives them 4 years of a Vlad window. Full stop.

. I never thought I would say this but even for me this team is quickly becoming unwatchable.

    on pace for 102 losses.

a few smart trades and we can challenge for the franchise record 109.

On another site, people mocked the idea that this team might lose 100. Seemed very likely to me all along.

I’m actually more inclined to watch them now though, at least when Biggio and Guerrero are in the lineup. Not that they’re going to win any games, but at least there are interesting moments. Better than watching Teoscar, Brito, Hanson et al disgrace themselves out there.

Ok time to create a pool for the firing of shatkins (shapiro and atkins).

    Atkins: November, 2023
    Shapiro: sometime in 2030

We're in for the long haul.

    Just wait until next season.

Next season when Giles, Stroman, Sanchez and Smoak are all off the team we can easily contend for our franchise record.

Yeah. Neither of these guys are going anywhere anytime soon. Shapiro is heavily protected and he is heavily protecting Atkins.

These two guys have never fit in here, and have always been hated since day 1. But it doesn't matter.

People already forget that they've already been here going on 4 years now. AA got shipped out after 6. But it doesn't matter...

Because Scherzer is a legend and Stroman is just pretty good? Scherzer is the rare combination of psychopath and ridiculously elite workhorse where his coach could trust him to get out of that situation himself. Stroman isn't that guy.

3 Cy Youngs will get you a lot of leeway to do whatever you want.

The commentary in that video is amazing.

And it didn’t look like he “refused” to cone out. He was animated in their discussion and making the case to stay in. When I started the video I thought it was gonna be a whole scene where he wasn’t giving up the ball and refusing to leave the mound. That’d have been great.
