Nah, this just isn't how you run an organization. The owner picks the coach, and the GM and coach both report directly to the owner. And the coach and GM don't get along, so they fire the GM after a massively important offseason for the future of this team to hire the coaches buddy. Its such a mess.
Success in sports starts at the top. There is no way around that. Overly involved ownership with no plan never lead a team to success. The Johnsons have created mess after mess.
We've seen this play out for years with the Leafs until Lieweke came aboard and MLSE stepped back and hired good people, and let them work. Thats the only path to success.
The organizational structure of the Jets is untenable. Best case scenario, if a guy like Douglas would even want to come here, you bring in a guy like Douglas who is tied to the coach and his roster that was put together by someone else. Worst case scenario you bring in another GM, who didn't hire the coach, and who the coach doesn't report to anyway. Its a shit show.
You have to have a plan and stick to it. Can't just consistently fly by the seat of your pants.
