Game 1 of best-of-7 series

The Anaheim Ducks have had plenty of time to prepare for the Pacific Division rival Calgary Flames. It's been eight days since the Ducks earned a decisive Game 4 victory at MTS Centre in Winnipeg; the only series decided in four games in the First Round. Tonight, the Ducks will face former goaltender Jonas Hiller in Game 1 of the Second Round, who was 1-2-0 with a 3.43 goals-against average and .889 save percentage in four games against them in the regular season. It figures to be a different dynamic in a best-of-7 series.

"It should be a great challenge for us," Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. "He knows where our shooters, most of them, shoot. We know where most of the goals have gone in on him. But in the end I don't think it's going to be a battle between Hiller and the Ducks. It's going to be between the Flames and the Ducks. He'll be a big part of it, but it's not going to be the final component."

The Ducks have played eight games in April because of a staggered end to the regular season, so they are used to having time off.

"We've been at the rink quite a bit, that's for sure, hanging out," Anaheim forward Corey Perry said. "For the body, it's great. But you still get to go home and you still get to see other games that are going on and just getting ready."

“It was a bit of a long wait, and we didn’t know if it was going to be Thursday or Friday, but the guys are happy about the Thursday schedule,” said defenseman Clayton Stoner. Though the break was long, Stoner says it gave the team an ample amount of practice time to stay sharp and focused. “It gave the guys a chance to rest, which is obviously one benefit, but at the same time, it did feel like a long time,” he said. “You need to get your mind back into playoff mode.”

Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf says they'll need to stick to playing their game, something they did throughout the four-game series vs. Winnipeg, in order to find similar success against a speedy Calgary team. "We know they've beat us this year," he said. "We know they can beat us if we don't play our game. Coming into our building, we want it to be tough for everybody. That's going to start with Game 1."

“We have a very simple way to play, and we’re going to play it,” said Boudreau. “We know their strengths. We don’t want to get into a run-and-gun game. That’s not the way we play. We hope we’re big and strong enough to contain them.”
