Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2021-22 Edition

By all accounts I've read, the asking price is basically that. And he wants around 4M per season.

I think that's the nuance.

Teams may be willing to gamble on giving up the assets to get him from Vegas but signing a player who hasn't played one NHL game to a multi year 4 mil/season deal is not an easy situation to asses.

That's the main reason he's on the trading block in the first place. But I'd do a 2 years deal at that price. I'd rather gamble that money on a Gusev than a Chiarot.

Hab fans would hate Laine... especially when he's getting paid $9m+.

I have no doubt at all that Laine's deal will look terrible if he's not scoring 50+... cause that's all he does. He scores goals and floats around doing nothing the rest of the time. I am friends with a lot of Jets fans and they hate Laine.

Laine is 1 dimensional player. Not worth sacrificing the farm for because he's not complete. Not to mention, we are rebuilding now and I wouldn't want to build my team around him, he's good but he has a lot of flaws in his game that I can't see changing. AHO would have made more sense , and there are some other guys out there too.

Habs fans are too funny, they whine ad nauseam about lack of talent but only want the perfect player and not give up market value for said player.

In his 3 seasons in the league, Laine has never scored less than 30 goals....even in his bad slump year.....

Why are we concerned about his defensive play ? He'd be the perfect winger for KK....

Stack the top 2 lines with elite snipers like Laine and Caufield, and let Danault, Price, Weber worry about defense.

Man, seriously, I can't wait for this ''defensive first'' stench to wear-off from Habs fans....and management

We've become a nation of Lekhonen's......

Yeah, who wants a one dimensional 4O GOAL SCORER? After all, they're a dime a dozen.

Habs biggest issue last season or for some time now? Scoring goals

Root cause for issue - lack of pure scoring talent preferably with size to fight thru traffic

Who wants a 1-dimensional, 6’4, 230 lbs monster with a quick release and a wicked shot, who at 21 actually has time to continue progressing & developing his game with the team’s future center piece (KK)...

yeah, what type of team can even dream of winning a Cup with a 1-dimensional goal scoring winger like Steve Shutt...

Let's not act like anyone is arguing that Laine is of no use at all. I'd be happy to have him, but between the cost to acquire him and the contract he's going to get... he's not going to be worth the cost.

He's going to get $9M+. It's not that he's bad defensively and great offensively. He scores goals, and like nothing else.

Laine's point share was 4.7 last year. That's pretty solid. Danault was a 4.6, Drouin 4.4, Shaw 5.5, Domi 8.2

I wouldn’t blink at offering up Drouin + Suzuki + Juulsen - not sure Jets go for it though.

Obviously you're joking, but Shutt may not have been a Selke nominee... but he wasn't a complete floater like Laine.
Shutt felt a lot of Scotty’s wrath for not keeping up with the play but the coach knew he needed his goal scorer, and Shutt was able to hide behind the fans scorn towards another legendary Habs goal scoring floater in Pierre Larouche.

Normally I would agree but Laine is pretty bad and will get paid like he isn't just a PP specialist.

I would think Aho’s offer sheet has baselined the RFA market. Can’t see any RFA getting more than $9M

I can see Marner getting more than that for sure.

Laine as well.

Point will probably take a discount because that is what Tampa does.
