It's quite different for journeymen, I mean they're called that for a reason. Top players generally don't move that often.

Lee Stempniak and Kris Versteeg tended to pop up in highlights for teams you had no idea they were playing for.

The issue is not solely how many times you are dealt.

A 25 year old who statistically is performing well and has been dealt twice, both times it is documented that he didn’t get along with his teammates.

Although this is an alleged/rumour. If factual, a third team who gave up significant assets to acquire Hamilton, has given up on a top pairing 25 RHD after only half a season .

    It’s a red flag.

It’s also an interesting market. Several conversations with GMs and league executives over the course of the past week or so have indicated that it’s a strong buyers market right now. As one GM put it, there’s already a lot of inventory out there and we’re early on in the process.

“Half the league is a moderate to aggressive seller,” said the GM.
Might there be another Vanek opportunity ahead for MB?

I get what you are saying.

I think we both agree....who cares. If you can buy low and the player on the ice is good. You do it.

I would have us in the "moderate selling" catagory right now. The Habs are currently a lottery team and have played more games than many teams.

Schelmko and Alzner might be untradable, but you can still put feelers for non core guys that have small value like Benn and Tatar.

In the lottery with little to no chance of winning it does not make a lottery team.

They are a mushy middle bubble team.

The trade to Carolina sure looked like a hockey trade to me though. It's not like they sold him at any sort of discount at all. They got a very good you forward and a highly touted young dman.

Character issues or not, Calgary is going to either take that offer or give it tremendous consideration. I'd see a much bigger red flag is he was sold at a significant discount relative to his on ice performance.

IF we move Dougie, it will be a hockey trade as well. We've known all along a D for F flip would be needed, and it's just been assumed all along it would be Faulk or Pesce; we even thought this one would be done before this season started. The Nylander situation gave another opportunity for that, but it didn't happen. Defensively so far, Hamilton hasn't found a comfortable partner in the top 4 and meanwhile Slavin-Pesce and DeHaan-Faulk have settled into a solid top 4, and Faulk has had a much-improved season in the D zone. Flipping Dougie with 2 years of reasonable term left would 1) let the Canes get a substantial asset up front, whatever that might be, which we need desperately and 2) make room to sign Fox out of college when the college season ends and give him ice time, because if they don't sign him this year with a reasonable opportunity to get NHL ice time, they'll lose him next year to graduation/free agency. If it happens, it won't be because Dougie's not been fitting personality-wise here, there's been no sniff of that, in fact quite the opposite.

Even with Skinner, we'd been hearing the need for a big D for F trade for a looong time to balance NHL and org depth. The rumors of that didn't start with the utter stupidity of THAT particular move we have to live with, but it did fool us this summer into thinking it would have to be Any Day Now. Yet here we are months later and yea even more in need of a top 6 forward because of the Pu we have instead of #53

With Anaheim in full on trade mode and making minor moves anyone think Anaheim looking to do something bigger and hence putting Fowler In play?

Problem they have is whatever they do it will only be half ass complete.

They might move a D , but Getzlaf Perry and Kessler are declining with no move clauses and near impossible to unload .

They will be the Hawks and Kings for years , there is no quick fix .

They are not in a position to go full gut Shanny plan
