https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...mpression=trueMore moves from general manager Marc Bergevin could be coming down the pipeline to help the Canadiens maintain. He’s already said he won’t sacrifice a first-round pick or any of the team’s A-level prospects for a short-term addition, but sources have indicated to Sportsnet he’s in the market for a left defenceman who can slot into the team’s second pair—one who’s on the right side of 30 and in possession of a contract that extends beyond the remainder of this season.
A forward who can help on the power play—Montreal currently ranks 30th (13.5 per cent)—is on Bergevin’s wish list, too. But whether he adds anything else between now and the deadline, the moves he made over the last 72 hours have already addressed a significant need.
“We haven’t reached the ultimate, of where you walk into the building and you can sort of smell victory. But we’re a step closer to that this year than we were last year.”
“So now the pressure’s on to replicate.”
- Geoff Molson
So he wants a youngish, Top-4 LHD for 2nd rd pick or scraps?
I don’t read it that way. I think he’d pay up for a player that fits moving forward.

I'd give up Nick Suzuki+ for Hampus Lindholm without much hesitation.
I probably work too much for my own good.
Anaheim would need to add.
They get close to $8M of free cap space, which is one of the main things they're looking for by shedding contracts. We can absorb those contracts because we don't have any important contracts to sign until Gallagher's deal in two seasons.
Maybe something along the lines of,
Suzuki
Alzner
Antoine Waked or whatever irrelevant prospect (For the roster #)
Lindholm
Kesler
B prospect, thinking Jacob Larsson.
I probably work too much for my own good.

Donald Trump, the gift that keeps on giving.
Yeah, it would be a tough call. Of course I don't see Kesler or Perry waiving their NMC to leave Cali.
I would not even consider trading our top prospect for either of those two.
Thompson for nothing is one thing, making a trade for those aging players and their crap contracts would irreparably damage the youth movement.

Spot on. The smart move is to parlay a 2nd rounder plus a decent prospect, like Juulsen or Fleury for a 2nd pairing LHD who can punch above his weight by playing with Weber. Slot Mete next to Petry and throw Reilly in that deal.
A good example is Alec Martinez who still has 2 more years at 4million and is 31. Hjalmarsson might be another option. We just need to hire a scout...or wait and take a chance that you can sign Gardiner for too much money and term.

Nobody would... unless you get a good enough player in return. I like Lindholm a lot... he's a LHD who logs huge minutes. I'm not sure if he's worth giving up Suzuki plus taking back a terrible contract (while getting rid of Alzner's less terrible contract)... but he's pretty valuable.
Seems pretty good to me. Do we think Suzuki is special?
