BUFFALO SABRES NASHVILLE PREDATORS

8:00 PM ET

Predators host Sabres to open homestand

Sabres (9-12-2) at Predators (12-6-4)

MSG-B, BELL TV, FS-TN

Season series: The Nashville Predators defeated the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday at First Niagara Center. Former Sabres forward Cody Hodggson had the game-winning goal, Mike Fisher and Craig Smith also scored, and goalie Carter Hutton made 30 saves for Nashville. Forwards Evander Kane and Jack Eichel each scored for Buffalo.

Sabres team scope: Buffalo's 4-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday ended a six-game losing streak (0-4-2). Eichel scored his eighth goal, the most on the Sabres, and defenseman Josh Gorges scored for the first time since Oct. 12, 2013. "In the last stretch of games, our record doesn't really show it, but we've played a lot of good hockey," defenseman Cody Frnason said. "For us, it was a matter of sticking with it and trying to find the back of the net a bit more." Goalie Chad Johnson made 27 saves in the win. He has .952 save percentage (138 saves on 145 shots) in his past six appearances, but Linus may get the start. The Sabres will visit the Red Wings on Tuesday to complete a two-game trip.

Predators team scope: Nashville lost 3-2 in overtime at the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday. Filip Forsberg and Fisher each scored, and Pekka Rinne made 33 saves. It was Forsberg's first goal in 17 games. "I think it was only a matter of time," coach Peter Laviolette said. "He has lots of chances and looks [against the New York Rangers on Monday]. ... Tonight, he was shooting the puck well also." Nashville could be without forward Gabriel Bourque, who missed the final two periods against the Flyers with an upper-body injury. Saturday begins a three-game homestand for the Predators, who host the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday and the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
