Early GDT FEB 12: Bolts @ Leafs, It's Business Time

I'm sure there will be a couple minor changes to the lineups but close enough.

I'll say it - I still don't buy the Bolts as being nearly as good as their record. Just look at the ridiculous per minutes scoring numbers they're getting from the likes of Killorn, Gourde, Namestnikov, etc - these guys are just not good enough to be putting up elite per minute offensive numbers, period.

That being said, they're still an elite team and it sure would be nice if the Leafs didn't just decided to hold on for dear life against one of these teams and tried to actually enforce their will on the game. Mo/Hainsey/Zaits have had enough games to get back into the swing (and all were great vs OTT), so that excuse from the BOS/NSH games is much less of an excuse now.

It's about time we step up and take it to an elite team.

Legend:

Letter Grades = Quality of Competition measured by opponents' time on ice, Converted into Letter Grades for simplicity
p60 = points per 60 minutes
CF% = Corsi For Percentage (i.e. shot attempts for percentage)
xGF% = Expected Goals For Percentage (i.e. shot attempt percentage adjusted for shot quality) - this stat is already adjusted for zone deployment and game score
In Brackets = CF% and xGF% relative to team
dsv% = difference between save percentage and expected save percentage

Domingue (25): 11gms, 87.7sv%, -2.8dsv% / ES 90.2sv%, -1.6dsv% / PK 76.6sv%, -7.7dsv%

Vasilevsky is playing over his head and home ice should help to exploit that second pairing. That said, Freddy needs to be very sharp to avoid letting them get up early.

Will be interesting to see if Mike can adjust

Our last 'measuring game' was vs the Bruins, and we lost that one.

Tonight is another test vs. an Eastern powerhouse, should be a good game to watch.

Go Leafs Go!!!

I expect that the lighter schedule now in place will ensure the Leafs compete better tonight than they did against the Bruins and Preds.

I can’t believe that a 20 year old in a 14 year olds body can play this game in thenhl. Marners ceiling if he can put on some size without losing quickness is scary.

Think their d got in the way of a lot of those shots. Looking awesome so far.

Btw I hate when the Leafs have the puck in the neutral zone and Hyman is skating ahead waiting for a pass. He doesn't stop or turn if he doesn't get the pass so you kind of have to pass to him to not be offside. Needless to say it's a turnover 100% of the time.

Kapanen and Dermott have made us a better team than Tampa, just sayin. Both are just unreal. Dermott with that delayed shot from the blueline? What presence, that is a veteran play. I like this Yanni Gourde, what a nasty piece of shit he is. No Matt Cooke though thank god.
