Every step along the way, Trump has acted like someone who is guilty of some shit. People can say what they want about the lack of (public) evidence, but he acts exactly like someone who has committed a crime and is trying to cover it up. ****ing exactly.

Pretty generic statement there.

I can guarantee he’s committed some sort of crime(s) in the past. What crime though?

FYI a President isn’t required to tell his staff what he discussed.

He acts like he's in Russia's pocket. Conspiracy to commit (and pick your flavour from there)

No, but those notes are governed by the Presidential records act. He's required by law to preserve them, even if they're slapped with incredible security clearance levels.

Sure, if that’s true (we’ve seen dozens of retractions) then that needs looked into.

But translations are also governed by executive privilege. I doubt this goes anywhere.

The scope of presidential privilege isn’t codified and care law is limited but it’s really unlikely that the transcript of a discussion with a foreign government would be subject to it.

It exists to protect internal deliberations with advisors. Privilege in other contexts is waived when a third party becomes privy to the information subject to the privilege (fwiw in one of two instances where the scous considered EP - Nixon - they recognized a limit in the case of criminal matters).

SCOTUS could compel a president to comply sure, congress can’t. Understand that an interpreter is covered under executive privilege though as far as congress is concerned.

Also, don’t for one second think that the GOP won’t use anything the Dems do against said Dems in the future. It is a consideration for both parties.

That doesn’t make much sense. Privilege exists to protect confidential comms in a context specific manner, basically to ensure free and frank discussion. Strategizing with your interpreter before a meeting with Putin isnlikely privleged. But a transcript of a conversation with the third party? That isn’t what the right was intended to protect and in any event any privilege that attaches would be waived on account of the conversation with the third party.

A hostile third party knows the content of tbe information. How can that be privileged?

habsy is now defending the potus destroying all records of meetings with foreign leaders, so that nobody in the entire country knows but him. nice.

Look it up. It is privileged from congress. Presidential interpreters fall under the executive branch.

Trump has constitutional lawyers all around him. To think he’s not using them to skirt issues is ridiculous.

When has Donald Trump ever listened to one of his lawyers or the people around him? He does what he wants, when he wants too. Everyone knows this.

Everything about him is damage control. He does something on a whim and then the people around him scramble to try and fix it.

I’ll say it again, if you don’t think Trump is constantly asking the lawyers how he can get something done (read get away with it) you’re being foolish. You don’t think they’ve done a deep dive into this declaring national emergency plan? Trump has always played outside the lines and uses lawyers as weapons. Stop believing the narrative that he isn’t using them constantly and is just doing what he wants.

It’s why he wins far more court challenges than he loses. Sure he “does what he wants” but he uses the lawyers to do so.

Privilege doesn’t mean that any record involving a presidents interpreter is privileged. It’s context specific.

Again, strategizing with your interpreter likely is privileged. But your interpreters interpretation of a meeti g with a third party shouldn’t be.

The guy has take a big dump on all the ethics lawyers around him. Other lawyers have terminated the relationship or refused to act for him because he doesn’t listen to advice.

So he never listens? Ever? Sounds like yet another narrative.

He’s listening now. Believe that. This National Emergency thing is being set up as we speak.

But it is.

This is the whole point zeke doesn’t get. I’m not defending what Trump does, I’m pointing out the loopholes he’s using. I’ll also point out that previous Presidents used them too.

Trump will use a pinhole to get what he wants. It is what it is.
