Also, do they talk to much & can they handle their drink (without talking too much).

ha I would never consciously make that mistake. I think you're aware of my feelings towards Mitchy. he owns this as much or more than Trump

McConnell is using Trump as a shield. Mitch and Nancy are probably the two most savvy politicians on the hill. Not that it's a good thing.

The National Rifle Association appears to have illegally coordinated its political advertising with Republican candidates in at least three recent high-profile US Senate races, according to Federal Communications Commission records. In Senate races in Missouri and Montana in 2018 and North Carolina in 2016, the gun group’s advertising blitzes on behalf of GOP candidates Josh Hawley, Matt Rosendale, and Richard Burr were authorized by the very same media consultant that the candidates themselves used—an apparent violation of laws designed to prevent independent groups from synchronizing their efforts with political campaigns.
The amount of energy necessary to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude larger than is required to produce it.

Not surprising. It'll be a fine and a slap on the wrist and they will just do it again in 2 years.

Email from AOC's press person after I asked to get added to the press list.

What I don't understand is that all these government workers who are still working, why do they not get paid now? Like, they're going to get backpay for all this time, so why aren't the rules set so they at least still get paid?

I can understand non-essential workers not being forced to work, and thus not getting paid (even if some of them may still get back-pay for this time too), but still seems like an overtly shitty situation to take out of people for political bickering.

Trump not ready to declare national emergency, acknowledges administration may be sued if he declares one to build border wall. He calls on lawmakers to pass bill. "Congress should do this... If they can't do it, I will declare a national emergency."

Translation: "if I call an emergency, it won't work and will get stuck in the courts, but I'll do it anyway."

The lesson here is not to hire Dotard or David “Mensa” Cameron to stain hardwood floors.

They would stuck on the far corner, high on fumes, hungry and unable to finish the job.

    Illegal.

In the 19th century, departments of the U.S. federal government, most of which were still of the sort we would now label “essential,” developed the corrupt habit of using the appropriations rule as a weapon. The Post Office or the Army would blow through their budgets greedily in a matter of weeks and go hold up Congress for more. Congress naturally got tired of this and developed a body of law known collectively as the Antideficiency Act. The ADA required federal departments dependent on annual congressional allocations to spend the money in monthly chunks, and it criminalized the creation of obligations or contracts for which Congress had not yet earmarked cash.

The resulting system worked for most of the 20th century. Government agencies stopped holding Congress to ransom in the traditional manner. When there were rare impasses between Congress and the president over budget issues, they might lead to a pause in cash spending, but employees of those departments kept coming in personally and doing their work. Desks were manned: trials and hearings carried on.
In the spring of 1980, however, someone noticed that the Constitution and the Antideficiency Act seemingly combined to make this behaviour not only unlawful but punishable. The U.S. government technically isn’t allowed to just fly on autopilot, even though that is always what it had done. Under the ADA, government employees working through a funding gap could be seen as incurring unfunded obligations to themselves, and thus committing a crime, whether or not they expected to be repaid

The issue came before Jimmy Carter’s attorney general, Benjamin Civiletti, in the expectation that he would find a sensible solution. But Civiletti was intimidated by the Constitution, and was unwilling to strategically misread the ADA. He took the strict no-autopilot view of the law, and declared his intention to enforce it. But he did invent — there is no other word for it — an exception for government operations involving “the safety of human life or the protection of property.”

The same thing happened in the GOP primary, they'll drop out in short order once it all begins. Most are only doing it to get their name out there for future endeavors, they know they have no shot at winning the nomination.

Heh. AOC, “I care about the people”!

Just not enough to make sure they’re covered. Rookie mistake by her and her staff. Flying by the seat of your pants is no way to govern, ask Trump.
