I read refs make $25k a round. They may not publicly embarrass the officials that make mistakes, but they do face repercussions.

Why not have the penalized team called for icing and unable to change their players if they are charged with an icing.

It will make it a hell of a lot more difficult for the penalty killing team if they cant ice the puck and have to kill off the entire penalty.
Iím kinda curious about the idea of icings on penalties, but think that might be too much.

Iím more interested by the other criticism floating around about why a penalty ends once you score. If you could have the full two minutes to score multiple goals, I think that would be easier to introduce into the game.

Say what? Individually they make 25k a round?

However, the last 3 years it was veteran teams whose building blocks were all around 30 or older (Pens/Caps), and this year if it ends up being San Jose/Boston it will be a vet team again.

Which has blown up the whole idea that you can only win when your stars are on ELCs and are in their early-mid 20s.
I think it was zeke who mentioned last year about a team having the ability to go over the cap and having to match dollar for dollar as a penalty for the overage.

Instead of taking away draft picks, fines, and voiding contracts, have the money a team has to pay go to the weaker siblings in the league.

Why is it the American teams have no problem taking money from the canadian teams in their equalization payments, but many of these same teams that keep getting propped up have tax advantages the canadian teams dont. (I think MZ alluded to this last summer).

I hate the cap system .... it you are wanting every team to be able to compete on equal footing, then you have to take into account other advantages some teams have.

You want to have a team in florida, and cry because you have to compete against markets that hockey is the main mode of sporting entertainment, then the other teams should be able to capitalize somehow on their tax advantages and cost of living.

Watch the accountants go out of their minds lol.

That would be one way to ratchet up the scrutiny of the ref/rules.

They're already terrified of calling penalties in the playoffs. Multiple goal PP's would make penalties almost non existent in the post-season.

Actually it might be better to have the penalties served whole.

Teeds was advocating a 3 on 3 type of hockey, where the space available for these younger players would be available to take advantage with their puck prowess and speed.

Having to spend the whole 2, 4 or 5 minutes in the penalty box, and starting to call the rules on the books might make for a more exciting game.

The cherry's and burkes of the world may not like it, but I bet the players would love it.

No more chara molestations in front of the net or in the corners.

No more holding or even stick their sticks in to check, almost like putting your hand in to take the ball away in basketball, almost an instant foul .... or in hockey, a penalty.

I think it would make the game even faster, as well as more scoring.

The goalies might hate it, but they are usually nuts and/or weird anyways lol

Just call the rules whatever the state of the game. OT or near the end of the game, still call it. Someone posted that chart where more often than not penalties for minus penalties against are similar for most teams. That's ridiculous and quite clearly is advantageous to a team that is playing a dirtier(penalty wise) brand of hockey.

The problem is the refs probably don't want to punish a whole team for the acts of one asswipe. So if they keep leveling Boston with penalties for Marchand's antics, and they lose the series thanks to a bunch of PP goals, the refs will be raked for having gone too hard on them. But they absolutely should since that's the only way to force a shit like Marchand to clean up his act.

Leafs legitimately play one of the cleanest styles I have ever seen any hockey team play. Ever. And there's zero reward for it. We don't get an inordinate number of PPs relative to our PKs, and are constantly seeing the refs turn a blind eye to a ton of garbage.

I hope so. Go Blues. A team that's hard to hate.
And boy, Buffalo didn't get much for ROR, did they?

Pretty much. Sobotka & Berglund were both useless filler making real money.

The only "real" assets were Tage Thompson, who was a "meh" late 1st rounder in 2016, as well as St-Louis's 2019 1st rounder & a 2021 2nd rounder.

I really don't know what the hell Buffalo was thinking. I know O'Reilly wanted out, but if that's the best return you can get for him, then you tell him to suck it up and keep playing until you can get a worthwhile return for him, like Joe Sakic did with Matt Duchene in Colorado.

Buffalo made some terrible moves last offseason. Moving O'Rielly and Lehner kept them in the basement.
