Checkers this past week:

Jan 11 Wilkes-Barre L 5-1 Darling got the loss pulled in the 1st period after allowing 3 goals. Poturalski with the goal
Jan 12 Wilkes-Barre W 5-3 Ned with the win. Gauthier, Roy x2, Geekie and Nastasiuk with the goals


4 Games at home this week. Tue/Wed vs. 2nd place Bridgeport (9 points behind) and Sat/Sun vs. Toronto.

Checkers beat 2nd place Bridgeport both Tue night and last night, increasing the point gap between the teams to 13. There is no one remotely close to them in the Eastern Conference at the moment.

Checkers this past week (a mixed bag):

Jan 15 Bridgeport W 1-0. Neds with the 20 save shutout. Saarela with the goal.
Jan 16 Bridegport W 6-4. Neds with the win. Carrick, Saarela, Geekie, Poturalski, and Schilkey x2 with the goals
Jan 19 Toronto L 4-3 (OT). Booth with the OT loss. Bean, Brown, and Schilkey
Jan 20 Toronto L 5-0. Darling with the loss.

The Checkers are 12 points clear of 2nd place Bridgeport after beating them twice last week. 2 road games this week. Fri at Providence and Sat at Hartford. Scott Darling is now 5-4-0 (on a team that is 30-10-4) with a 3.48 GAA and .880 Sv%.

As much as I want to see plenty of production out of Drury and Fox, I am even happier that the stifling defense and stellar goaltending of my alma mater, the ECHA-leading Cornell Big Red, shutout Hahvahd on Friday!!!

Darling seems pretty much like he has thrown in the towel on his season, maybe on his career. I guess the Canes will let him play out the season in Charlotte and then have the buyout papers ready to be signed.

What a disaster he has been overall.

If he keeps stinking it up in Charlotte, it wouldn't shock me if they park him in Florida in the ECHL when everyone is eventually healthy. He has been just as bad in the A as he was with the big club. Maybe TWO notches down is his current level.

Trevor Carrick was suspended for 2 games for a high sticking incident on Sunday. He’ll miss Friday and Saturday’s games against Providence and Hartford. They have 6 dmen now, but Fleury will be headed back as soon as they get back from Vancouver.

Checkers this past week:

Jan 25 @Providence L 5-3 Darling took the L but Booth got the start and was pulled after allowing 3 goals on 10 shots in 22:33 of play (Darling allowed 2 goals on 10 shots). Bean x2 and Lorentz with the goals.
Jan 26 @Hartford W 5-2. Ned with the win. Bean, Saarela x2, Poturalski and Fleury with the goals

Checkers will resume play after the all-star break this Fri and Sat at home against Providence.

Checkers head into the break with a 12 point lead in Bridgeport in the division and 9 points on Grand Rapids in the league.
