The REAL Standings

It was just a couple weeks ago where Craig button was on the radio panicking that the leafs would miss the playoffs and saying that they should get Ben Lovejoy. Crickets now of course.

Muzzin has really improved their d even with hainsey and zait still being misused as ****.

If anyone was listening to Button in the first place they probably can't be saved.

The media acts no different than the average fan in regards to panicking over a slump and small sample size.

I still laugh when I think of Button calling Kapanen a "dime a dozen" player when he was a 20 year-old PPG AHLer. It's always so obvious why these old-boy former-front-office-turned-pundits don't have NHL jobs anymore.

the low point of the season was a 103pt pace and 6th best record in the league,, with the 4th best goal diff.

What's not so obvious is why media execs give them platforms.
I guess they have at least the veneer of credibility because of their former jobs.

And then the guys that are actually good still have jobs in the league for the most part.

I think the "Anonymous NHL Execs" are real, but like ****ing with guys so they'll repeat their nonsense. That EXEC who said he'd bet his house on a Lou offersheet to Matthews and Marner was quite something. Friedman was so delighted to repeat it.

Pretty sure that one was from Gord "all of my friends are anonymous NHL execs" Miller.

I don't really follow other sports but my sense is that they don't go to the fired exec well like Canadian NHL hockey broadcasts do. As much as these guys might have some credibility for having been there and failed so badly that no one wants to hire them despite the experience, they have pretty obvious conflicts of interest. I mean, Button, Burke and Poulin were all shitcanned by the Leafs but given prominent platforms to spew about them.

The media acts no different than the average fan in regards to panicking over a slump and small sample size.

and even worse, they expand and legitimize the panic into narratives that feed back to the average fan, and so continues the cycle of life

I feel like David Attenborough should have narrated that.

Gord's bet with an NHL exec was some vintage bottle of liquor over Marner/Matthews offersheets. Miller is the worst. Some of these execs are morons anyways.

man oh man that desert debacle really hurts.

need a big effort tonight now to close the roadie right against the hottest team in the league.

jeez Edmonton is even getting face****ed in the turtle derby in the west. watch them trade next year's first now...

looks like a team that misses in the east will outperform a team (or two) that makes it in the west too

Although TB didn't really scare me all that much before, it's getting pretty tough to ignore just how much better than everyone else they've been all year long. Even if the only real difference between us is the PP.

Kucherov is the real head-turner though. About to crack 100 points. I mean, just put that into context by comparing how good Marner and Tavares have been this year, and then add another THIRTY points to their totals. I type that and am astounded by it.

Nah. They are in the Hughes/Kakko sweepstakes now.
