    10-game Segments Pts Paces:

    1st 10: 115
    2nd 10: 115
    3rd 10: 107
    4th 10: 107
    5th 10: 74
    6th 10: 107
    7th 10: 107

So basically we've had one big slump this year, in january.

Every other 10gm segment we've earned either 13 or 14 points.

    '16: #30 pts%, #30 row, #29 gdiff

    '18: #7 pts%, #9 row, #6 gdiff
    '19: #6 pts%, #4 row, #3 gdiff

so the team continues to improve, but....

    '16: #15 cf%, #11 scf%, #30 sh%, #23 sv%
    '17: #9 cf%, #5 scf%, #10 sh%, #11 sv%
    '18: #14 cf%, #6 scf%, #5 sh%, #5 sv%
    '19: #10 cf%, #9 scf%, #4 sh%, #5 sv%

.....looks to me like the improvement is mostly talent related, not coaching related.

Well, Babs basically has to be taken behind the woodshed and beaten with tire irons before playing Kapanen with Matthews, still overplays his "gudpro" d-guys and doesn't seem too quick on making in-game adjustments, so I wouldn't mind punting him after this season, to be honest. Not sure Coach Q is better or anything, but there's got to be something to give here.

If Babcock goes at some point, I'd prefer we go with someone who thinks the game the right way rather than someone with a sparkly resume. Winning a stanley cup as a coach appears to be one of those "moment in time" things where everything goes right. If you're lucky, you're the head guy during a quasi dynasty/perennial contender (Coach Q, Sutter, Sullivan) and your rattle off a couple of titles. But if you made a list of the most respected coaches in the NHL, most of them appears to be average to good coaches who won a cup, lost their job later and haven't been able to replicate that magic elsewhere. Only one coach in the last couple of decades has won a title with two different teams. Scotty Bowman won with Montreal, Pittsburgh & Detroit. Everyone else is a one hitter quitter, other than the couple of guys who won multiple titles in the same city with the same core.

I don't like Kappy with Matthews.
Sure he's a center and is supposed to dish the puck, so that's great for kaps, but Matthews is a scorer, and Kapanen doesn't think of passing.
He's awesome and maybe he'll learn, but I'd like to see matthews getting the puck in the good places more than he is.

Or maybe if he's there, make sure the other winger can dish it off. A.J is shoot first as well/

Kappy was the obvious answer with Willy out for the contract issue, and then again when Kadri went down and Willy slotted into the 3C spot, but he's not ideal for Matthews. I disagree with one of the assessments of him that he's all north-south, Kappy has a a fair bit of puck possession ability on the cycle, and has the hands and patience to make plays in the offensive end, just not on the level of Willy. Same thing with zone exits and entries, Kappy is a pimp...just not on Willy's ridiculous level.

Matthews isn't a guy you want all over the puck in the offensive zone. Everyone in the world knows that when he has it he's trying to carry it to a shooting position so the defence has time to close out shooting lanes. You want guys who can control the puck at a high level and find Matthews in open ice and Willy is just way better at that than Kappy. The knock on effect of that though is that Kappy is probably more trustworthy as a defensive winger so something like Marleau/Moore (we know it's Marleau until he's taken away from Babcock)-Kadri-Kappy makes a pretty outstanding matchup line.
