Yeah, I mean, we're not really a bunch of kids anymore, and most of us have never seen it happen in our lifetimes. So it's long past due.
I can't see it in the cards this year, though.
I believe these are all the possible scenarios where the Leafs and Habs could meet in the playoffs this year, and they all seem damn unlikely:
- Toronto finishes 1st in the Atlantic, Montreal finishes in the 2nd wild card spot.
- Montreal finishes 1st in the Atlantic, Toronto finishes in the 2nd wild card spot
- Toronto & Montreal finish ahead of Boston in the standings, and Leafs/Habs end up being the #2 vs. #3 Atlantic division matchup.
- Montreal finishes in the 2nd wild card spot, beats Tampa in the 1st round, Leafs beat the Bruins, and Leafs/Habs meet up in the 2nd round.
- Montreal finishes in the 1st wild card spot, beats their Metro division opponents in the 1st & 2nd rounds, Leafs beat their Atlantic opponents in the 1st & 2nd round, Leafs/Habs meet in 3rd round.
- Toronto finishes in 2nd wild card spot, beats Tampa in 1st round. Montreal finishes top-3 in Atlantic, beats Boston in 1st round. Leafs/Habs meet in 2nd round.
- Toronto finishes in the 1st wild card spot, beats their Metro division opponents in the 1st & 2nd rounds, Montreal finishes top-3 in Atlantic, beats their Atlantic opponents in the 1st & 2nd round, Leafs/Habs meet in 3rd round.
