OT: Team Canada/2019 World Juniors

Alex Formenton suffered an injury near the end of the game. Too early to tell the prognosis, but this could be a big blow to Team Canada if serious.

Bob McKenzie:
No prognosis from Team Canada on Alex Formenton injury, awaiting further word after more testing/imaging today. Formenton is on crutches and wearing a knee brace on his right leg but Team Canada said that is precautionary/protocol.

The scratches tonight that appear to have locked up spots: Evan Bouchard, Noah Dobson, Ian Mitchell and Jack Studnicka.

Alex Formenton, Gabe Vilardi and Jaret Anderson-Dolan are still listed as injured.

An update is expected tonight, but sounds like Alex Formenton is going to miss the tournament.

That would bring Canada down to one returning player.

Bob McKenzie:
Formenton's knee injury takes him out of the tournament.

^ Make that one forward cut to go.

Been watching Lavoie for two years now. Seasons tickets.

Guy is two different players. With the pick he can be deadly. Without it? Brain dead.

Soff soff soff.

Highly overrated here in Halifax.

Happy he was sent packing.

Mark Masters:
If Jaret Anderson-Dolan (wrist) and Gabriel Vilardi (back) are ready to play at the World Juniors then Team Canada will need to release another forward. Head coach Tim Hunter says that decision has already been made and the player who would be cut has been informed.

Bob McKenzie:
The most likely odd-man out candidate, if JAD and Vilardi can both play, is Alexis Lafreniere, the youngest player currently with the team.

Here are the lines from the first team practice after cuts were made:

Maxime Comtois - Cody Glass - Owen Tippett
Jaret Anderson-Dolan - Nick Suzuki - Gabriel Vilardi
Morgan Frost - Barrett Hayton - Jack Studnicka
Alexis Lafreniere/Joe Veleno - Shane Bowers - MacKenzie Entwistle

(Brett Leason didn't skate today.)

Markus Phillips - Evan Bouchard
Ty Smith - Ian Mitchell

More Team Canada/CHL trade news: Noah Dobson will be joining the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies after the world juniors.

Damn, was hoping the Mooseheads would get him.
