100% reminds me of Byron. Hard worker. Quick. Good in his own end. Good metrics. Just lacking finish. Byron may always have more of that but I think Weal has more than what he showed in Arizona. Certainly a legit 4th liner who can also play on the pk.

IMO this is akin to the Reilly low cost acquisition last deadline. Just like Habs were targeting Reilly as NCAA UFA, they’ve been following Weal for a while - solid move just upgraded 4th and 4C in particular vs speedier teams (re: Leafs).

This move ensures DLo eats hotdogs in the press box...which is the biggest gain of all.

So is the Nate Thompson experiment over? Weal is definitely better than him.

Weal was not great on faceoffs with the yotes (but was with the flyers) so maybe that keeps Thompson around.

I could see the habs bringing Weal back for next year. Youngish, RH centre.

IIRC he is a UFA after this year.

I don't mind Thompson so far, keeps things simple, makes good decision. I definitely prefer Thompson over DLo.

Only if they get rid of Peca.

Seriously, he’s done his job and has actually made some nice plays that were not finished

Nah I can see them running with two of them for the 4th line next year. No Thompson, no Dlo hopefully. That’s if Weal impresses.

That’s what I was thinking. It gives you two good faceoff guys on that line should one get tossed out the other steps in.
