Around the League: 2019-2020 Regular Season

Re: Around the League - 2019 Off Season

They are done rebuilding, it was a two year process and in a market like NY you can't do this for 3-4 years.

They will get a stud in Kappo and have some nice prospects, they are going after big names this summer

They will still miss the playoffs this years IMO

Re: Around the League - 2019 Off Season

Larry Brooks has already said Dolan has mandated the NYR must make the playoffs, just as Philly ownership did so leading to Hextall’s departure. Owners in these markets are not going to stand by for years upon years of rebuilding - that’s not how running a business works.

They can mandate all they want , or whatever douchebag Brooks says

Team is too immature right now to make the playoffs , they have maybe 4 players worth anything

Unless Kakko and the other kids turn into gold this year , they are going nowhere

Running a business in the real world is different than a hard cap and throwing money at junk in UFA

One more year of development and maybe they can turn that corner

Phillys ownership is just as stupid forcing shit and trading for Hayes and maybe signing him to a dumb contact like McDonald and others

Not really, as the old adage goes you can love them or hate them just keep talking about them. With the other Philly teams winning, Flyers (who struggle for recognition to begin with) become an afterthought with their limited fanbase, same with all the sports teams in NY. NYR were 19th in % capacity attendance, no way in hell Dolan stands for that.

I agree, doesn't change the fact they are done rebuilding and will go after big names to try and make the playoffs

Although not officially determined, the belief next years cap could be below $83 million has a number of teams nervous. Still have to get the business done as the Sharks are doing here.

Why would they move Ehlers?

TRADE BAIT: GM Kevin Cheveldayoff says #nhljets have a lot of balls in the air. So what’s next?

Belief is Jets offered Nikolaj Ehlers to #Canes for one of their right-shooting defencemen.

NYR land a high quality Dman in Trouba and likely not done yet with guys like Kreider, Vesey, Namestnikov and Buchnevich potentially in play. Could be an interesting week/wknd for the Rangers.

Its totally different

Bezos or any other top CEO can wipe out a division or make acquisitions on the fly to boost revenue or change structure and business models

Dolan cant do shit on the hockey side but put together a management team that makes the right moves putting a quality product on the ice

When you win you keep fans in the seats and sell merchandise and boxes

He cant snap his fingers and buy a team or force a winning team on a hard cap .....this isn't MLB or Real Madrid

Their window was shut years ago and perfectly orchestrated a retool/rebuild in 2 years unloading vets at the right time

Re: Around the League - 2019 Off Season

That's a hell of a deal for New Yawk.

The Rangers got a 25 year old top pairing d-man for a middle of the first round pick in a middling draft + a depth d-man.

Way to go, Gorton.

somebody on the twitter website was saying that same GM that drafted Lucic, Marchand, Kessel - signed Chara before Chiapet took over

Re: Around the League - 2019 Off Season

Bob McKenzie:
Multiple teams I’ve spoken to are very concerned about this cap forecast. Many fear that when the NHL and NHLPA settle on an upper limit this week, it will be LESS than $82M for next season, or an increase of only slightly more than $2M.

Not good news for the Leafs

Cap will not go as high as though yet Marners demands seem to be going higher after the Skinner deal.

Re: Around the League - 2019 Off Season

The Flyers have acquired Justin Braun from the Sharks for 2019 second-round pick (41st overall) and a 2020 third-round pick.

Dolan’s objective is to keep MSG at min 99% capacity. Big UFA name brands allow for that. Hockey is a sideshow between Yankees & Nicks/Jets seasons - Dolan knows it

That's a nice haul for SJ considering Braun is a bottom three guy

Leafs, VGK, TBay are all in big trouble...something’s gonna give

Jacob Trouba’s fiancée is studying to become a doctor in the U.S. This is a big reason why playing in Winnipeg on a long term contract was an issue for Trouba and why the trade to NYR works for them. Here is what he said about that this morning.

Re: Around the League - 2019 Off Season

Las Vegas isn't in that much of trouble.

They have Clarkson that will be on LTIR once the season starts and that will clear $5.3M for them.

Re: Around the League - 2019 Off Season

Leafs have 8 mil left with 18 out of 23 signed.

The issue is that one of those 5 roster players left to sign will command about 10.5 to 11 mil (Marner)
