anyways, the big move to make is to grab a blueliner.

like hainsey, but i don't want 37 year old hainsey on the first pair of a healthy blueline in the playoffs. that's not going to be good enough.

An interesting first period enforcement of fan code of conduct. A fan at the game was just told by security to put down his ‘Take Eugene Not Karlsson’ sign or it'd be confiscated.

Sure they do. If you remove a player who is impactful, and add a player that is more impactful, you've gotten better.

We have to add without deleting. Hoffman would be great though.

If we swung 2 trades and turned JVR plus stuff into Hoffman, and Jake plus stuff into OEL (with "stuff" somehow not including Kappy and Lilly), we would be massively upgraded. You don't have to add without deleting when your add is a clear upgrade. In fact, in a capped world it's often better to upgrade in this fashion.

JVR is the sort that might have very high value on the open market right now, yet also pretty easy to replace in the lineup and or via another trade.

This is why I don't subscribe to the "McDonagh won't cost an arm and a leg" argument. Too many GM's get too stupid with valuations at the deadline. We benefited from that in the not so recent past.

Winnik became Carl Grundstrom in the 2nd round, for example.

Wow. So the guy with the sign doesnt wanna let it go. Security argues while another person gets it on video. Security ask guy who took video to hand over phone. He says no. They get police and escort him out. He is only expressing what fans are thinkink #melnykout
 
Get rid of the owner. Build a stadium closer to people.

But its gotta suck for Eugene a bit too. Even IF the leafs played in Barrie they'd likely still sell out every game. Nevermind a conference final.
 
The whole beauty of them needing an owner upgrade is that there's probably no one local who can/will step up to the plate to keep the team there. Isn't that why they ended up with Melnyk in the first place?
 
the real issue is that no sane billionaire would want to try and run a pro sports franchises in ottawa.

i feel bad for gene - he's spent so many millions that noboy else would have. and they hate him.
 
He's shit, but I do feel for him on one level. They've been a competitive team for most of his time as the owner, and were having a hard time selling out playoff games last year.
