Around the League: 2019-2020 Regular Season

Possibly, but that's because they're borderline NHLers. And that's the point. We gave up on a guy who's not a regular NHL player on a team with good players in his position.

Kulak's a third pairing d-man at best (Boy did those Kulak truthers from last year suddenly suddenly disappear without a trace), Reilly & Folin are tweeners, so the notion that Barbiero would probably play before them means almost nothing to me.

I couldn't care less.

The Mike Reillys, Mark Barbieros and Christian Folins of this world aren't every day players on teams that have good left-handed d-men.

Mikhail Sergachev played over 21 minutes Tuesday in Florida. Partnered with Shattenkirk again tonight. Cooper said Sergachev has taken a “big step” the past few weeks in command in d-zone, being more physical, using his body in battles #tblightning

Worked fine for the Preds, worked better for us than expected. We'd be in a worse place right now with Subban's contract and a NTC. That NTC really was the key and it allowed Poile to avoid it.

Bottom line ......Nashville was gunning for a cup and PK was a better fit for their run

Weber is a better fit for us who surprisingly is aging better .

It’s still the wrong trade to make nice Nero went all in and wanted a vet in return.

He should of been traded in a Pacioretty type deal.

I don't think it's that surprising that Weber aged better. Subban's game was almost completely based on his athleticism and once he lost the edge in that regard, his play fell off a cliff.

What I do find surprising is Weber still being able to keep up in a league that is getting younger & faster and Subban's fallen off completely. When the trade happened, I already saw the trend when most here were still going on about signing overpriced UFAs. Here's the truth: Those of you looking to sign the likes of Taylor Hall, Mike Hoffman and/or Chris Kreider in the summer of 2020 if they reach free agency are complete and utter fools. The league is getting like the NFL & the NBA. Younger and faster with the good organizations using that youth on cheap deals. I thought that Weber by year 3 or 4 would be a PP specialist. He was already having troubles with a speed team in San Jose during his last playoff run in Nashville, although hindsight being 20/20, his troubles with San Jose are almost assuredly due to him playing through injury. I had also assumed that even if Subban's play would drop off, that 1- He wouldn't be nearly as bad is he is now, at least not so quickly and 2- Due to his contract being a lot shorter, the pill would be a lot less bitter to swallow.

Totally agreed on not signing those as UFA`s unless its short term . Hall would be a disaster long term

Hard to know what deals were available, plus we would have to have taken some salary regardless. Rumors were swirling about trying to get a first to draft Dubois. Sadly MB was running against the NTC deadline, which diminished his position.

PK was a stud back then , I find it hard to believe that a deal structured around an A level prospect wasn’t available.

You would figure the NTC should of helped our cause , teams would have an easier time flipping him anywhere just like Nashville did .

Nero was determined to stay competitive and get a 1D in return , that limited his trade partners

The return: first-round pick, conditional third-round pick that could become a 1st or 2nd, Kevin Bahl, Nick Merkley and Nate Schnarr.
