Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

I wonder if/when the PA will start telling players not to sign early and at least test free agency. FFS, free agency is boring as hell as players never even test the waters. I get the "financial security" but fuck, at least force Edmonton's hand a little. I figure next season McNumbnuts will sign by July 2 for another 8 years because he's a good Canadian boy.

From a business move I get it but Oils are done in a few years

97 is going nowhere now
No one will care if they win a Cup this season or next. But if they don't it's going to be another decade of darkness (well, it will be one either way but if you have a ring it's easier to accept)

Why do you care about players testing free agency? It isn't something any fan of any Canadian team, least of all the Habs, should want. The best way for the Habs to win is for players to have less control over where they play, not more.

I can't wait for the Heureka! moment both the teams and players realize allowing real free agency earlier in their careers will be a win-win for both camps.

Why risk injury for the non superstar level player

Caufield came back from reconstructive surgery , he would be a fool saying no to 60+ mil

even in the fuck off fans world Wehave wants?
Management can afford to tell Habs fans to go fuck themselves because they know the fans won't do a damn thing about it. In reality, the fans do have the power, but in Canadian markets they rarely, if ever, use it. And because the owners know this, they know that there is no penalty to doing things which piss off their fanbase. This is why you see small market US teams blowing their brains out trying to remain competitive enough to make a wild card berth while the Habs can afford to ignore those pressures. Those small market owners in places like Columbus and Raleigh need bums in seats and they need playoff revenue in order to keep from going under. US fans won't pay to watch a mediocre product. Canadian teams have no such worries because win or lose, the fans never stop coming. Exhibit A: the Leafs.

More control for the players = fewer good players wearing the CH. All the low or no tax markets are already dominating the league as it is. Giving players more control than they already have isn't going to make HuGo's jobs any easier.
also means fewer for all Canadian based teams and iirc, you would gladly have us never win again as long as the Leafs never win

You cant slot 700 players on low or no tax teams , players will gladly fill jobs when the Pigly Wigly pays them squat.

The more control you give the players and higher costs for stars will slaughter the middle class
