General Leafs News & Notes

Sir Psycho Sexy is indeed a Red Hot Chili Peppers song from the album Blood Sugar Sex Magic. Apparently the good Mr. Burke doesn't care for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Everyone has their own tastes, but if a band needs to be sued, can't we start with friggin' Nickleback?

I do though, hope that PK wins the Norris this year so that Montreal will have to pay Norris money for someone who isn't Norris worthy.

What does a PK extension cost after he wins a Norris trophy? 7.5?

Hehe. Was just going to say this. Rather he not get the Norris.

Think Subban will come in third though. Behind Letand and Suter.

Think Gally and Chuckie will get some Calder votes.

The Oilers twitter keeps pimping Nail for the Calder..he had a great last two games when the season was over... but it should be Justin Schultz that gets pimped by the Oilers.

wait -- do you mean to tell me that brian burke is suing a song?
Or maybe he's suing the Chili Peppers themselves?

Probably a bad move. I know Burkie has a lot of money, but I'm pretty sure the Red Hot Chili Peppers can afford better lawyers.

I'd say the top 3 Norris will be Letang, Suter, Subban in that order. Pheneuf had a great year too, but minus D-men on a generally good team don't tend to win the Norris.

I agree with you that +/- does play a role in the voting...but it shouldn't because it's a useless, outdated stat.

If you look at the dmen who faced the toughest competition this year, for almost all of them, their +/- stats are average or mediocre.

Top 10 Dmen in Rel QoC with +/- stat
(min 30 games played and min 16 min ES per game)

1. Ekman-Larsson: +5
2. Michalek: +4
3. Phaneuf: -4
4. Hjalmarsson: +15
5. Giordano: -7
6. Bouwmeester: -6
7. Kronwall: -5
8. Robidas: +2
9. Pietrangelo: E
10. Gunnarsson: +5

It's almost impossible to play against the opposing teams best players every night and post a top +/-. Basically, if you play against the best players consistently, you're penalized, when in fact you should be celebrated.

Its pretty interesting that list is all Swedes and Canadians. 5 Canadians, 4 Swedes and a Czech.

He's probably the best defensive player in the league.

Poor man's Lidstrom.

Agreed entirely.

It's ridiculous how good he is at both ends of the ice at his age. Plays top minutes against the opposition's best lines, plays the power play, and is very efficient offensively. He kind of reminds me of a more talented Kenny Jonsson with how good he is defensively. And Listrom isn't a terrible comparable, although Lidstrom was already a 60 point all-world shutdown defender at the same age.

OEL isn't quite in that stratosphere quite yet, so poor man's Lidstrom might not be a bad comparison.
