OT: American Politics

Maybe I'm missing something, but why is the IRS thing a problem for Obama? I can understand being frustrated at it targeting conservative groups, but as far as I see, it was the IRS who decided to take that action. I wouldn't be shocked if they saw a few RWNJ groups try to skirt their taxes, so the verdict came down to put them all under scrutiny.

The West Wing has intimate knowledge of what each and every of the 93,000 employees (I looked it up) at the IRS is doing at all time, and as such this all Obama's fault and it proves he's evil. Also, don't forget the daily operations of National Parks, NASA, the CDC, the Postal Service and everyone else who works for the government. He's accountable for every missing stapler.

Geezus. In the non-delusional-nutbag world it's called "delegated auhtourity", it's how very large organizations work. They have bosses who are accountable. Just fire them a be done with it. Problem solved.

But I wouldn't want to be the head of the IRS. West Wing will be rather displeased.

The Obama administration apologists are out in force. Exactly as the elite had hoped would occur with this wolf in sheep's clothing.

For years, the Obama administration has been engaged in pervasive spying on American Muslim communities and dissident groups. It demanded a reform-free renewal of the Patriot Act and the Fisa Amendments Act of 2008, both of which codify immense powers of warrantless eavesdropping, including ones that can be used against journalists. It has prosecuted double the number of whistleblowers under espionage statutes as all previous administrations combined, threatened to criminalize WikiLeaks, and abused Bradley Manning to the point that a formal UN investigation denounced his treatment as "cruel and inhuman".

Second, we yet again see one of the most significant aspects of the Obama legacy: the way in which it has transformed and degraded so many progressive precincts. Almost nobody is defending the DOJ's breathtaking targeting of AP, and with good reason: as the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press made clear yesterday, it's unprecedented:

"In the thirty years since the Department issued guidelines governing its subpoena practice as it relates to phone records from journalists, none of us can remember an instance where such an overreaching dragnet for news gathering materials was deployed by the Department, particularly without notice to the affected reporters or an opportunity to seek judicial review."

I see you've already gobbled up the "rogue employee" narrative coming out of the White House. Bravo.

I don't need the WH to tell me shit, including whether anyone is rogue or not. It's obvious for anyone with half a clue. This is called being in the real world, instead of trapped in a compressed infantile snot and germ-factory every day, all day.

By the way, the same thing applies to Libya.

No, I'm gonna let the press do its job and read all that for us. The MSM will give us one spin, conservative media will give us another, and through it all the White House and people like you will be spewing the bile they always spew that anyone who is against them is obstructionist, stupid, or partisan. Or racist. I forgot racist.

why is that laughable?

there is zero evidence that this was an irs-wide directive.

just a policy that was followed in one regional office

meanwhile, has anybody come forward to say taht their 501(4)(c) status was denied?

and why is there so little focus on the fact that 501(4)(c) orgs are a total sham, and all of the big ones (conservative and liberal) are illegal and acting in contravention of the very provision (501(4)(c)) of the IRC that grants them the special status subject to review?
