OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Yeah, the biggest failure of that attempt to build around FredScal was that we just stopped making good rotation players appear out of thin air. It's starting to look though like the talent was probably here, we just miscast it, were patient with the wrong guys, etc. Thibs has turned Precious' career around over the last 20 games by doing some fairly obvious shit. We were trying to turn him into a Pascal 2.0, which is cool because if you squinted the skill set was there but he's too low IQ a player for it and that became pretty clear midway through last season. Thibs has put him in a super defined role as a rim running big and he's been pretty okay. Even when we used him as a centre we were letting him carry the ball up court, using him to spread the court, etc. Thibs has him rebounding, never dribbling under threat of benching, run the court looking for the pass and then setting up in the dunker spot, crashing the offensive glass. That's it, that's all. If he even thinks about deviating, Thibs sits his ass down for him to think about it.

Dalano just needed time and patience apparently. Picked the wrong guys to give long looks at (Yuta, Svi, Malachi, etc)
Svi got a long look?

Svi got a long look?

56 games of dogshit. 30-40 of those as a significant part of the rotation. That was long enough.

That was the summer I was fucking begging for us to sign Malik Monk (1.7 million to the Lakers) and Wayne Ellington. We signed Svi, Dekker, and Isaac Bonga because 6'7

You made up several of these names.

Malik Monk has been doing some really good things for me Fantasy wise, so Go Malik Monk!

He averages about 15 a game with 5 asists and 3 rebounds in about 28 minutes a game. What is not to like? That is a very sold 6th man.

Would be kind of excited about him if I didn't struggle to see him not getting dummied on the defensive end in the NBA. I think he'll be a really nice international centre and probably look really good for us in international play. But still struggle to see those feet and that pace surviving in the modern NBA.

With proper coaching and utilizing his skill set , no reason why he cant be a decent rotational big

I am not drafting him in the lottery but if he falls to our first pick in the second round would consider

He can't defend the P/R to the point where NBA offences are going to hunt him constantly on switches, and for offensive possessions to go through him in the low post (the only thing he has a NBA skillset at imo) he needs to get way stronger (he gets stopped mid post alot by early contact despite his size advantage) and develop more weapons than just "drop step right to jump hook". His drop step to the left is ugly awkward.

I just don't see the role for him on a NBA bench if he can't defend, can't run the court, can't shoot, and he's not really good offensively. The NCAA game is suited to his strengths where it's still a lot of passing along the perimeter and a fairly pedestrian pace. Giving him time to jog the floor, establish post position and take his sweet fucking time once he has the ball down there in single cover against a guy 6-8 inches shorter, and 60+ pounds lighter than he is. I do think there's a place for him to be good in Europe though, but not in the NBA. His foot speed would have to improve a ton for him to carve out a long term NBA job imo.

He kind of has a point, but why share it so aggressively in public? I'll be honest about giving zero fucks aside from the highlights of Caitlin Clark, but I'm glad women's sport is having a moment right now and looks like it might be moving towards commercial viability in the future. That's a good thing, regardless of whether or not I'm watching.

Yeah, I'm not watching either, but the NAME 5-7 PLAYERS thing is kinda weirdo stuff. You can just... not like something and ignore random people enjoying it. Unless you're like, WeHave or something.

(Sidenote: do you know how many times an obnoxious dude in a bar has challenged me to name 5 Leafs players?)

Btw, would want to be a fly on the wall when you counter challenged him to name 20 Leaf prospects and their last 10 draft picks in chronological order.

"oh...so you're saying that you don't know who Nicholas Moldenhauer is eh?.....plastic"
