Playoff GDT: Round 3, Game 2 Canes v. Habs 5/23 7:00

Let’s try this again, shall we?

The team didn’t practice yesterday but to a man, they all know how poorly they played on Thursday. The awakening of Aho’s line 33 seconds in was a false hope. While Andersen was left on an island too frequently, I have to think he’s on a short leash tonight.

The Habs top line, which had been mostly quiet at even strength throughout the playoffs, doubled their goal total. Slafkovsky scored his first 2 even strength goals. Suzuki had 3 assists.

TNT for TV. Mike and Tripp on radio, John Forslund on the national radio call.
 
I'm hoping Thursday's game will be enough motivation to get the job done. The Habs are feeling pretty good about themselves (rightfully so), so a win tonight is crucial. Go Canes!
 
Yeah, time to go do better as opposed to talking about doing better. That’s pretty much it. This series isn’t about tactics and matchups, it's about execution.
 
Ref-wise, Game 2 gets:

Refs: Gord Dwyer and Kelly Sutherland

Linesmen: Matt MacPherson and Bevan Mills

Gollem … I mean TJ Luxmore is in reserve along with Ryan Gibbons

Dwyer and Sutherland are probably the two most notorious game managers in the NHL stable. That will lead to some weird calls based solely on the score and “order” but at least you usually avoid freakouts, retribution calls and games with 20 power plays. Usually.

We haven’t had Dwyer in the playoffs yet. The last time he worked a Canes game was March 29 against Montreal. We had Sutherland for Philly game 1 with Luxmore. He hasn’t worked since Montreal/Buffalo game 4.
 
Sutherland was the dummy who called Martinook for high sticking after Cam York intentionally grabbed Martinook's stick and tapped himself in the face with it and gave the obligatory 'my face has just been fractured into 1000 pieces' head jerk.

Sutherland generally tends to be fair, and I trust him to be, but he is absolutely horrible in terms of actually seeing things correctly and is very easily suckered into calling stuff that didn't really happen.

Generally his misses are in support of his game management nonsense. It was “Philly’s turn” on the PP when he saw what he wanted to see on that phantom high stick.

We were all miffed in the third level on that, it was as good of a hit as you’ll see and apparently Rank thought it was too hard of a hit 🤣 these guys embarrass themselves with their made up nonsense calls.

Well, it was a hard hit and almost made him cry. It was also almost high enough to head him in the he’s. Another foot and a broken nose. With. Broken nose, there will be blood in his jersey and the ice. We cannot have that and must stop this unnecessary roughness by the candy canes.
