I find Westjet often has better times than AC, and will tend to be a bit cheaper (and they don't treat you like cattle quite as much).

That being said, if I flew regularly, I wouldn't fly Westjet for basically all the reasons ME wrote (although I disagree about some points like seat quality and inflight entertainment). AC will treat their Elite and Super-Elite customers like gold, but don't bend over for us normal folk.

I've generally had good luck on American carriers. There are no frills anymore and I despise the fact they make us pay for even your first bag, but prices are cheaper and there are more flights.

What's to disagree? Seat quality is subjective....but inflight entertainment? AC has the touch screen system with 100's of hours of movies available. Westjet has 25 channels of Canadian television (50/50 on whether or not it's shitty reception in my experience) and pay per view movies.

This much is true...in fairness though. They do a great job making it worth going for E35, E50, etc (the new elite/super elite)....Westjet simply doesn't.

Heh...another AC elite perk, Star Alliance Gold....I get the same benefits on a few of the bigger American carriers.

In Ottawa, from a customer service standpoint, its not even close. Air Canada are mostly inconsiderate pricks, Westjet bend over backwards to help their passengers. Westjet women are far, far better looking, too. Regarding the other issues such as more choices and connections, I do agree. My POV is mainly about the people. Also, Westjet has less delays and cancellations than the other airlines(bearing in mind they have less flights than AC...)

In my experience, mainly out of Peason, Edm & Calgary....AC delays are fairly rare beyond the regular stuff (de icing, etc). I've had to deal with 2 significant delays (1+ hours). 1 because a plane got struck by lightning on the way in and they had to switch planes, and another because the ground crew smelled something they didn't like on start up and ran back through their entire checklist before they would allow the plane to fly. Westjet, yeah, I don't think I've ever run into a significant delay with them. Westjet isn't a bad airline...but it is what it is, a fairly no frills operation with fairly limited travel options.

I've never had an issue with AC staff, even before I was an elite member....the famous westjet hospitality always seemed a little forced and overdone to me. Though in fairness....I've never flown through Ottawa, so maybe they hide their ****s in Ottawa.

Its better to find a problem on the ground than in the air.

I'd fly United ahead of AA too. AA has to be the most ghetto airline I've ever flown. Terrible service. I've had the misfortune of flying LAX - MIA or a similar distance on AA and every time something funny or unbelievable has happened. The off duty flight attendant refusing to surrender her seat to a paying customer comes to mind. Or the red-eye I took that had no service because of "turbulence" when there wasn't any. That's American Airlines for me. Plus you get some real trailer trash on some routes.

I feel your pain though. I'm flying back to Ottawa in a few days. Not looking forward to that so much.

I don't mind AC either, but the FA's are all old hags or homos.

Best for me has been Quantas, Air NZ and British Airways.

I don't fly often at all, but my last experience was showing up at the airport dark and early in the morning for a 7 AM West Jet flight from Toronto to Vancouver for a Whistler ski trip, and the girl at the West Jet counter tried to tell us that our flight had been cancelled, but that they had "accommodated" us with a 6 PM flight. I still can't believe they actually tried, with a straight face, to sell us on that being an acceptable option.

It's Cinco De Mayo and man is MindzEye missing out in the North Pole Suburbs.

I've had nothing but good service on United. Even got bumped up to 1st class once. My only complaint from my recent ORD - HKG flight was that there were no ac outlets or screens in the seat backs.

At the end of the day...you get what you pay for.

I just wish they'd start weighing all passengers as well as the luggage.

If you are going to charge me $95 bucks for having a bag that weighs 51 pounds then you better damn well note that I am only 180lbs and the fat bitch in front of me is pushing 3 bills.

Agreed completely. The three of us were in Orlando once and they have a pre weigh in for United. I was at 52, my son's 45 and wife's 53. We were going to be charged $200.00 so we had to start moving stuff around, into our carry on etc to get under weight.

I told the guy, you are already ****ing me over charging me to fly a bag of clothes on a holiday, now you want more. He apologized and said he agreed but it was policy.
